Flavius Belisarius, 505-565, was a prominent Byzantine General during the reign of Justinian I. He is one of a list of people considered to be "The Last of the Romans". He led armies in Persia, North Africa, Italy, and Constantinople. Belisarius was accused of corruption and going against Justinian and was blinded and made to travel the land as a beggar. He was eventually pardoned. Many of the images in this collection portray Belisarius in an abject state accompanied by a young boy (whom he is sometimes carrying).

. . Not a lot is documented about make-up artist Pierre La Roche who in 1991 died of AIDS in Paris, France. To this day, Roche, pictured left, is still relatively unknown despite being regarded by many for creating “the face of glam rock. . La Roche, born in #Algiers, Algeria, moved to France before relocating England in the 1960s where he worked as a make-up artist for @elizabetharden. However, he gave up his job and decided to go freelance when the company requested that he tone down his work. . La Roche clients included some of the biggest rock stars of the day. He was responsible for creating @davidbowie’s #ZiggyStardust and #AladdinSane face-paint. He also toured extensively with @therollingstones and ended up @mickjagger’s personal make-up artist during the bands “Tour of Americas ‘75.” . Later, La Roche was hired as a consultant for the cult classic movie ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ (1975). He created the make up for #FrankNFurter, the self-proclaimed “Sweet Transvestite from Transexual Transylvania” played by the British actor #TimCurry. . More controversial was @hallandoatesofficial, decision to call on La Roche to create the make-up and album cover concept for ‘The Silver Album’ in 1975. The duo’s faces were not included on the cover of their first three albums but for this album, they wanted their faces shown but in a bold way. Consequently, La Roche created an androgynous metallic glam rock style cover — shot by fashion photographer #BillKing who died of AIDS in 1987. Hall would later admit in an interview that he looked like “the girl I always wanted to go out with on that album cover.” . #whatisrememberedlives #theaidsmemorial #aidsmemorial #endaids #neverforget .
