Y’know pre-Hiccstrid, Astrid’s pretty bold. She’s always the one initiating kisses, and she’s like, kissing Hiccup ALL THE TIME. Kids what are you doing?

And then they get together together 👀 and suddenly Astrid’s flustered all the time and Hiccup’s using every chance to pull her into a kiss.

Sure she kisses him on Berk when they’re hiding near the Great Hall. But then even in the quickest of kisses Hiccup just goes for it.

It’s like, now that Hiccup knows he has her, he’s so unapologetic about their relationship.

I bet Astrid was a little flabbergasted after their first few kisses because imagine they get back from a mission on the edge and everyone’s left. Astrid’s ready to go over battle plans for the next Hunter attack and Hiccup just shuts her up with a yank and a kiss, and suddenly she’s forgotten where they’re even at. She’s probably thinking “dayum who’s this guy”? The same kid she dropped her heavy axe onto at fifteen years old?

Then she has to remember that Hiccup can be recklessly fearless sometimes. He did climb a tower with a metal rod in a lightning storm to prove a point…

Astrid’s a baddie that could live life well on her own. Yet despite her independence, she lets someone take care of her, and I REPEAT, she feels so safe with him because sometimes letting him take the reins is such a relief for her. She can count on him. Astrid’s doesn’t mind being a little vulnerable in front of him, and that’s just pure love.

I mean people, Hiccup spent TWO SEASONS looking for the Dragon Eye okay, and the moment he gets it back and sees that Astrid’s in Viggo’s grasp, that man doesn’t think twice about throwing it into the volcano.

He loves his dragon stuff, but he did not hesitate to throw that thing away for something so real with her.

i love the idea that viggo's issue is that he's always overestimating the dragon riders and that's why he loses. other antagonists always underestimate them, they don't put in all the necessary precautions, which allows the riders to slip through, always throwing parties and gloating before the dragon is in the cage. but viggo?

my man takes so many precautions, his entire island is a war base, and yet, and YET the dragon riders got in by dyeing snotlout's hair blonde, giving him gucci boots and naming him sir ulgertorpe, SIR ULGERTORPE. viggo got catfished by snotlout with blonde hair. he's overestimating them so bad that the IDEA of them "just walking in" doesn't even come to mind. he's ready for fire and death to fall from the sky but a one-legged boy pulling a fast one on him breaks his fancy little english brain.

hiccstrid era has begun once again

it's crazy how the writing hold up so well the last time I read these I was 14/15 and now I'm 20 and they STILL are one of the best httyd fics I've read in term of characterization of the whole cast+ hiccstrid dynamics + the political-dragons subplots
