reasons why a character might go hungry

(some of these might be very common reasons but it’s my first list so i guess we’ll just roll with it)

• they’ve overslept, leaving absolutely no time to grab breakfast so they have to go to work/school with a rumbling stomach

• they just finished a workout and their stomach is feeling painfully empty after burning so many calories

• they have to finish a project due tomorrow and totally skip dinner without realizing it, but once they go to bed late at night they realize they’re hungry when their stomach grumbles loudly. they might or might not be too tired to get out of bed to quiet the complaints from their midsection

• they’re waiting for their takeout order to arrive, trying to distract themself while their stomach growls impatiently

• their fridge is empty and they need to cook lunch, so they drive to the grocery store but run out of gas halfway through. unfortunately, lunch is postponed to a few hours later and their belly is grumbling impatiently

• them trying to cook something they don’t usually cook, but they end up burning the food so it takes much longer than expected to actually eat

• they’re in a foreign country and don’t speak the native language. when they’re in a restaurant, they order something that looks good enough but when the food arrives, they’re allergic/dislike it so they eat what they can and leave with an unsatisfied, rumbling stomach

• whenever they eat in the mornings, they feel nauseous. however, if they don’t eat, they’re absolutely starving by the time their next opportunity to eat arrives. they have to choose between nausea and hunger

• they agreed to meet for lunch with a friend, but said friend cancels last minute. they’re left with no plans for lunch and an empty stomach until they figure out what to do

• they’re suddenly called by a member of their family because of an emergency, so they’re forced to skip dinner to take care of said emergency while hungry
