Divine Rivals

Dates Read: 12/22/24 - 12/29/24

“I love the words I write until I soon realize how much I hate them, as if I am destined to always be at war within myself.” • I was very fortunate to bump into Rebecca Ross at Yallfest last year and she signed her most popular book for me. Now after finally reading Divine Rivals, it’s become one of my most treasured possessions.

This story was beautifully eloquent. The writing so lyrical I found myself rereading entire passages. It’s always such a wonderful experience to find a book that makes you wish you could inhale it into your body. The concept was unlike anything I’ve read recently. A beautiful love story that unfolds amid the horrors of a war between two gods in a low-fantasy version of WWI England.

Iris and Roman quickly became one of my favorite book couples. The chemistry between them when they were competing for the same columnist job had me instantly rooting for them to be together.

I love ending the year with five star read. Here’s hoping I can fit the much anticipated sequel in before the end of the year! 🧳🖋️💌 • E’s rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Bride

Dates Read: 11/11/24 - 11/13/24

“Maybe you’re not meant for me the way I’m meant for you, but I’m going to choose you anyway, over and over and over again.” • This was my first Ali Hazelwood book and it was so much fun! So much so that I devoured it in 2 days. This modern twist on the supernatural was right up my alley with a fast paced plot that kept me churning through pages. This was very much a romance, so the world building is quite basic, but the chemistry between all the characters made up for it.

I love me a brass, witty MC and Misery Lark delivered; I really enjoyed her voice and spirit despite her world constantly beating her down. She and Lowe had so much delicious tension between them, despite the slowest of burns. Although, Lowe’s adamance about not acknowledging their bond made me want to reach inside the book and smack him around a little. The spice was… um… interesting and that’s all I’ll say about that.

And with that minor cliffhanger in the epilogue, I’ll definitely be holding out for a sequel! • E’s rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

"came back wrong" what about Came Back Afraid. You used to be brave. Too brave maybe, defying the odds at every turn, a fighter, cocky, playing with fire, first to throw yourself at the enemy. Until one day it all caught up to you. You came back, somehow, but now you know all too intimately how it feels to lose, to die, to be destroyed. Now you flinch and freeze and cower at the slightest provocation. Who even are you now if you can't be brave? The grave may have let you go, but the mortal fear still grips you tighter than ever.

“Her worry is its own ghost, haunting her through the night.” • I’m loving my current read!! It has a creepiness that I enjoy reading at this time of year plus cozy Miyazaki vibes all mixed together with folklore.

I was lucky enough to score this ARC at Yallfest last year, and I’m kicking myself for taking so long to get around to reading it.
