“warn them, probably. unless it was my fault for the break-up, because i can own up to when i was in the wrong...sometimes. i don’t double dip so there’s no chance of me wanting them back, but if it’s what my best friend wants, then i will do my best to be supportive, even if the ex is question royally sucks.”

“uh, i was five, i think? chasing some poor kid around the playground in kindergarten. he’s gay now, i think.”

“okay, okay.” fox laughs a little, letting parker hold onto him as much as she wants. when he looks into her teary eyes, he finds his own eyes watering — whether it’s the relief of finally having his best friend back or a build up of the past few days ( or probably both ), he’s not sure, but he lets it happen. he nods eagerly, willing to promise parker pretty much anything as long as it means that they don’t go through this hell again. “of course. i won’t — i know that i should have come to you first.” he laughs genuinely for what feels like the first time in years — hands moving to his hair in mock horror. “no, not the hair!” after a moment of levity, he sobers once again, his expression changing to hold as much sincerity as he can possibly muster. “i promise, nothing’s ever gonna come between us like that again.”

a wide smile spreads across her face, and she resumes hugging the life out of him, burying her face in his chest. “give me, like, fifteen more seconds of hugging and then we can act like normal people again.” she pauses. “no, we can never act like normal people, but i’ll let you breathe again at the very least.” content sigh leaves her lips and, true to her word, she drops her arms after a little longer. she glances up at him, head tilted curiously as she studies his face. “you look like you haven’t slept in two weeks,” she says, lips forming a slight pout. “nap or coffee? either way, i’m coming with you.”

taking a deep breath, benjamin’s eyelids fluttered slightly as soon as she placed her hand on top of his and her skin sent shivers down his spine. when she opened her eyes, they met with his and he could have sworn he had seen her eyes drop to his lips. even if it was just for a split second. as benjamin continued to speak, about how he would be there for her if she ever needed him and how she would get through this. he truly did believe in her. if there was anyone who could do whatever their heart desires, it’s parker. benjamin continued to talk, when he noticed her rising to her tip toes and before he could say anything else, he felt her lips press firmly against his which caused his eyes to widen slightly in surprise. the hand on the side of her face still stayed pressed against the bone and his lips parted when she fell back on her feet. licking his lips, he stared at her for a good second or two, muttering a quiet, “ wow, ” before he leaned down and captured her lips with his again. his eyelids fell shut and he added pressure to the kiss while his other hand, the free one, wrapped itself around her tiny waist and pulled her closer. 

parker hastily drops her hand off of his when she steps back; her already flushed face turns scarlet as the gravity of what she’s done hits her. why did she kiss him?! what possessed her to do such a thing when they’re only just starting to become friends again? she’s about to splutter out an apology when she feels ben’s lips on hers. for a second she thinks she’s somehow managed to kiss him again, but her feet are flat on the floor and his arm is wrapping around her waist -- her hands fall to his chest as he pulls her closer, and she knows for sure that he’s really kissing her back. she presses closer until she’s flush against him, her hands finding his neck as she melts into the kiss. she’s kissed a fair number of people, but she’s certain this is the best kiss of her life. it’s over all too soon, and she finds herself yearning for more -- she holds herself back, eyes fluttering open to find his. “i really want to be able to say we shouldn’t have done that, but i’ve been wanting to do that for at least the past two years, so i can’t bring myself to lie to you.”
