“I asked chatgpt-“ ok well I asked the male Madagascar hissing roach in my tank and he made a really loud sound from his spiracles (the holes found on the animal’s abdomen) by forcing air through them. this incredible ability makes a unique sound that can only be made by that individual roach alone. It’s thought that this noise is not only a way to deter predators but a way to communicate with other members of the colony, as Madagascar hissing roaches are a democratic and very intelligent species. They enjoy socializing, sharing spaces, and even their women exhibit motherly behaviors often only seen in higher intelligence mammals
