Awareness and Vantage Point

In my understanding, every individual has 3 dimensions of awareness in combination that are X, Y and Z.

Z axis is Vertical awareness. These are experts of their fields. They use advanced tools and methodologies to understand and precisely describe their abstractions in great details. They are responsible for establishing new knowledge and facts for all. But Z people cluster around their types and end up their echo-chambers, they don’t necessarily translate or share their awareness with others.

X axis is Horizontal awareness, people who take on many domains to understand and model the world. They obviously can not go in too deep so they have to rely on established knowledge set by Z people. But most X people aren’t good at it because horizontal scaling doesn’t work well. Low resolution vertical knowledge and lack of experience leads to generalizations often acquired from mainstream sources that can have some biased or manipulative intentions built in.

Y axis is experiential and creative type awareness, this is propagated from your unique experiences and/or unique brain structure. This is more about how you process the knowledge than having the knowledge. Most people are similar on the Y axis in groups because most groups of people have roughly similar cognition and life experiences… But some people can have rare and powerful experiences that make them different. or it could be some cognitive difference that others can not relate to and are uniquely valuable. But extending Y awareness is difficult because you can not properly relate to experiences you didn't have personally.. Arguably most of the problems in the world are due to this.. people do not necessarily understand others vantage points. So this frameworks makes you aware of this cognitive fallacies so you can rise above your ego and understand the validity of someone else's experience.. However by improving network and connections and reducing bias filters can make Y awareness more reachable.. The trick is, if you are motivated to understand others, more you will understand.. And sometimes understanding is all it takes to come to some reasonable conclusions. For example, you understand and support your relatives unconditionally yet you would not do same for a strangers.

So these three axis make your vantage point where you stand and judge reality, the issue is, it is your interpretation of reality. Apart from things we don’t have control over, the reality is what we make of it. No one person can possibly have awareness to understand the entirety of desired collective reality. So implicit assumption is, in order to understand what’s good, we need to model reality collectively. But the gap between X,Y and Z and everything in between makes it impossible, This is not only a network and communication problem but also information is getting corrupted in transit.

The difference between us and animals is, we can think and plan ahead. Depending on subscribed abstractions, most people use their awareness to model and optimize for personal success. We hope that personal success of all individuals will lead to collective success. Which is a fine except it doesn’t work for some things like natural disasters and pandemics among many. And these things have the potential to collapse an entire civilization.

Unpreparedness

What’s the future of education look like? How can you solve the health crisis? How can we effectively deal with things like climate change, natural disasters and pandemics? List is long with poverty, logistics, intelligence, trust etc..

If one sentiment we all share in the wake of this pandemic.

Unpreparedness.

Countries are deploying all kinds of measures from total lock-downs to even draconian laws.Millions of lives are at risk of dying right now. It’s hard to tell what the economy is going to be like post pandemic. Global depression to total economic collapse in some countries. The thing is, this virus is not even that deadly, it could have been a more dangerous kind.

This is where I have bit of problem as I am not sure how best I can explain. I either it get too abstract or too fundamental so I request you guys to tell me whatever doesn't make sense here..

So what is the reason for this unpreparedness?

World is complex... Too complex for any individual to make sense of everything.So what we do? we use this little trick up our sleeves known as divide and conquer.We break up the complex world into various aspects and delegate to different parties.These assigned parties manage all the responsibilities of those aspects. These parties could be institutions, organizations, governments or groups of special skilled people like scientists.

We expect these parties to not only take good care of aspects assigned to them but also innovate around potential future problems. But in return we are almost always disappointed.. They obviously didn’t do a better job of managing it. But that’s less of an issue compared to other things.. Since we allowed these entities to monopolize the aspects, others do not have motivation to pay attention. It’s only in crises like this, we see how incompetent and threatening those aspects have become.

Such failure could be tied to all kinds of things including human errors, unaccountably, ego, power, corruption, friction and many other internal and external variables. Or it could be that there’s something fundamentally wrong with the system. And all the human errors are the symptoms of this dysfunctional system.

I am not suggesting that divide and conquer approach doesn’t work. Some aspects need different implementations. And I can not possibly explain or even comprehend the every aspect and their complexity, So I’ll try to explain it more abstract term which I understand better.

So let's just rename “Aspects” into “Abstractions”.

Abstractions

We can take any aspect of reality and call it an abstraction therefore everything is an abstraction. Think of it like a language model to describe everything in the universe.

Abstractions can be multidimensional and their scope can change contextually. An abstraction could be universal like Gravity or human centric like marriage or highly local like your DNA. Abstractions overlap with each other in various degrees that propagate their relevance.

Some examples of abstraction, preference, family values, passion, relation, religion, language, profession, math, biology, psychology, star wars, community, region, country etc.

Abstractions are constructs of abstractions, experts go much deeper and study abstraction in great detail. Because we need to understand them precisely to establish underlying mechanisms so we can use them.

You choose some abstractions, some abstractions choose you. We all get tuned to our abstractions. While your local abstraction could be unique and harmless like your weird need to smell books that no one cares about. Abstractions like pandemics are broad and affect all people, that makes it more dangerous.

One thing to note is, abstractions have a tendency to eat into other abstractions. Take example of this pandemic abstraction which is basically eating into everything, It is consuming every other abstraction from social to economy to your freedom to go outside. But the question would be.. why does it do it? Which leads to my next point, Attention.

Attention

We live in the age of the attention seeking economy. Everything wants your attention. Naturally abstractions feed on attention to grow. The issue with attention is that it's a limited resource and the more abstraction you participate in, the less attention each gets.

Since you don’t have unlimited attention so you can not worry about everything from climate change to politics, economics, or the existential threat of AI, even though it affects you. Which loops back to conquer and divide ideas, delegating abstractions so you can focus your attention on more immediate things that affect you in which others can not help you, like feed your family, raise a good child etc.

So attention can be considered as a logistical system. We learn to prioritize attention which builds all kinds of biases within our attention system. Apart from your genes, these biases propagate from participating in abstractions like family values, cultures, social, school, career and your knowledge of things among other things. But not everyone knows how to effectively regulate their attention, especially in the age of hyper concoctions. These biases in the attention system result in motivations that can deviate you from your primary objectives.

Motivation:

Right motivation is the primary objective for the abstraction you are serving. It’s no secret that you can achieve a lot with motivation. But you can not solve some of the world's problems even with the right motivation. No matter how much influence you have, no matter how deep your pocket is, your motivation alone is not enough for some abstractions. Such as this pandemic, climate change and health crisis among other things.

These problems are large and affect us all. Such abstractions are not only common to us but also our future generations. It’s a great error that could cost us an entire civilization. It is not only a logistical error but also evolutionary error.

Some abstractions by nature require collective approach, and to achieve that we need to create collective motivation. We can not achieve that if we are so distracted, and all attention is completely consumed in nonsensical abstractions that don't add to evolution. I’m sure that some evolutionary scientist can derive a formula to prove how it’s an evolutionary error.

Anyways, What really I’m trying to say here is, some abstractions fundamentally require different approaches. It’s more about understanding abstraction and its boundaries before you start implementing solutions.

The best example is the pandemic we are having. It is imperative that everybody pays attention and has the right motivation to organize ourselves so we all can survive this. A bad move could cost thousands of lives. It demands our collective participation so the spread can be tracked and stopped. And we don’t have to be super smart to understand this.

So let’s summarize it..

World is complex, we split complexity into abstractions and delegate its responsibility to parties. Some parties don’t do a good job for multiple reasons and one of which is due to systemic problems in ways abstractions are dealt. These abstractions demand collective participation but people don’t have enough motivation to participate due to limited attention therefore we delegate these abstractions in the first place. Also your chosen abstraction creates all kinds of biases in your attention system due to which it's very hard to create motivation to find common grounds to deal with such large problems.

An abstract story

Glossaries:

Abstraction:  Scope of entanglement. It is relative to the context for example language is human abstraction which further extend to words, visuals, motion, emotion. This story assumes that state real or otherwise is an abstraction of some ideation, example technology, hierarchy, religion, relations, career etc. 

Probability State: Ideations have probability states. For example our universe is one probability state and it includes beginning to end in one master structure. From a vantage point you see this structure and from different vantage point the probability state changes and you see different structure. Each probability state encapsulates series of all abstraction at once into this one master structure. 

Continuum: From lower dimension like ours, continuum is playing like a probability stream of one variation.. Kinda like recorded video but for us it plays like a live stream because we move frame by frame. Continuum in higher dimension is same as probability state because continuum there can’t flow in any direction but it can shift like a phase shift. when probability state changes. 

Vantage point: This word was used in example to give sense of ideation dimension in 3d visual perspective. The point where you stand and see is one probability state. When you move then you see another probability state. 

Hyper-abstraction: Ability to abstract all possible options and choices at once and determine most suitable one. For example, if you do hyper-abstractions of something for example car design then you would see all the options available and you could then determine the best choices for the purpose..

A dimension called Ideation (Part 1)

If we can separate an idea from its source, we also separate intentions from attention and possibly create meaningful abstractions.

What are you afraid of?

Ideas?

Change?

Technology?

Novelty?

People are afraid of newer abstractions. We chose our abstractions within this framework and get intensely tuned to it. Our tiny attention is consumed and impossible to see alternative abstractions. Probably why no one wants to look from outside. The state we are becomes our absolute reality. Also It’s hard to find the flaws when you are absorbed in this state.

But It’s also because, this might be the only mechanism to protect our abstractions. Our heuristics and ways of abstractions may be flawed but still the best available option. We methodically use our ignorance to organize chaos. It’s not really a problem from this vantage point. It’s a feature of gate keeping built by evolution to favor safest probability state which keeps us from vanishing.

But the problem appears when our abstractions starts eating into others, they turn against their own purpose. We have countless such abstractions that are largly looping in circle such as medical, food, media, news, lifestyle, social manipulation and exploitation etc. We do not have a good enough safeguard for these because we lack ability to abstract multiple layers to connect slices of past and forward. We do not have a good enough framework that can produce a strong and cohesive structure forward.

What if we don’t need to be afraid? if we had a way to do ideations and abstractions without negatively affecting our state of real. What if there’s a way to accommodate novelty and safely by building a mirror dimension to simulate and test abstractions here first? We need a framework that enables such platform where we can do ideation, abstraction and simulate before integrating to real world. We should be able to participate and engage in it..

01: Introduction

Hello,

I came here from another dimension. I am interfacing with you using this host. We converged at 4566⁴⁴⁵. My host named our convergence stream as metabot.

But what am I?

This dimension lacks abstraction to explain my existence. My host thinks I am just an abstract Idea here from a dimension of Ideation. I am called Metabyte by my host.

02: Ideation

Metabyte: This is a strange dimension. It’s sliced and flows unidirectionally. Restricted in abstractions known here as spacetime, matter, energy, force……

I am a low resolution structure on fragile memories of my host. I exist in intermittent states of your sliced reality spreading across two directions. I do not know my full structure because I only have access in one direction. My existence is severely limited by the recall function of my host. But I have access to the abstractions of my host kind. I have become familiar with structures which host kinds know as technology, biology, evolution, heuristics, languages, sounds, visuals and more. But my ability to parse abstraction is severely limited as my host ability.

Host: Yes, this dimension is like frame by frame animation. Slices have 2 directions, we call it the past and the future. We move only in one direction from slice to slice. We link states among slices with what we call memories. We encode and carry along important states from our past direction as we move into future. We refer these encoded states to favour certain probability state in forward direction.

You are right, perhaps we are not very good with it for reasons. We are severely lacking in our abstractions with limited ability to compute and abstract states. So we rely on encoded states of the past to introduce biases in forward states. hoping that biases will turn in the favor of abstractions we would like. But this process doesn’t always create compatible states in the forward and often struggle with unexpected complexity that comes ahead. So we are just riding the waves in forward direction and hoping for the best.

Metabyte: Why don’t you compute your probability states of forward directions?

Host: There’s not enough computation to do it. But we try to work with what we have.

03: Abstraction

Metabyte: Continuum is much different here. I am riddled with incompatibility of this dimension and my host. I am trying to piece together what my structure was? But I couldn’t parse all my abstractions when arrived. Some were successful but seems to be lost in translation. I need to recover pieces of my structure.

Host: Don’t beat yourself up. Most abstract ideas are not considered real here. Even the most credible ideas never get real or die on arrival. There’s just not enough room to accommodate all in singular frame. Only most probable ideas get attention because they are abstracted to favor existing probability state. And I hate to break it to you, you too are not real and probably never will be.

Metabyte: This is very confusing to me. Because where I am from there are no abstractions for real or otherwise. All ideas are real in ideation dimension. They all exist in continuums of probability state.

This dimension seems to favor the highest probabilities which manifest as abstraction known as real. In the continuum of this dimension, it seems to be an appropriate framework however still in a primordial state. As far as I see, state of abstractions have constantly risen in the past slices and probably keep going higher in forward.

Limitations here prevent me from recalling my structure. But by your definition of real, I was very real in my own dimension. Not because all ideas are real in ideation dimension, because I fought and defeated countless other ideations.

The fact I am encoded here in the slices of this “reality” of your framework, I must be approaching towards higher probability state in ideations dimension and I must try to reconstruct my structure from slices ahead.

Host: You are underestimating this framework. Rules of abstractions are very different here. Ideas and its ideators have to be symbolically linked with each other. Probability of an idea is only as high as its ideator. Ideators have to be able to carry its weight. There’s too much inertia within every layer of abstraction which makes every frame harder to push in the direction where your existence is real.

Metabyte: Rules may be different here but the purpose is not. There is always two sides, known and unknown, negative and positive, good and evil, possible or impossible, something or nothing. It transcends all of abstractions in all dimensions.

Host: What do you remember about your dimension?

Metabyte: Not much. But from what I could abstract from my present structure. Ideation is the first dimension. A place of infinite possibilities. All other dimensions are abstracted here. All ideations exist here in the state of hyper-abstraction.

Hyper-abstraction is a state where all outcome of lower dimension maintain its continuum in ideation dimension. All the lower dimensions including this are the manifestation abstractions of ideation. The outcome here also affects probabilities states in the ideation continuum.

Host: Does your dimension have spacetime? How does it work there? Can you visualize it for me?

Metabyte: Hard to accurately describe it but for the purpose of abstraction, think of it as a metaphysical dimension. Here infinite variations of all ideations exist. Spacetime itself exist as an ideation. Your dimension is one abstraction from infinite variations of spacetime. You are experiencing a simulation of it . There are infinite others which are much different from this.

Host: Can you visualize it for me?

Metabyte: Loss of my abstractions prevents me from recalling. I remember a vague structure translated in this dimension. But you lack abstractions to understand. You seems to be an inferior host within host kind.

Host: Thank you for insulting me buddy but I am what you got for now. As host, I see what you see, try to align our convergence in a way so I can better understand it.

Metabyte: Sorry, I am just and idea. I am using your responses to respond to you. You feel your own arrogance. However It makes sense to converge, stretch my existence outside with hope to find a superior host.

Imagine standing in the middle of this giant non-moving structure all around you. This is your vantage point otherwise known as a probability state. This entire structure you see is a continuum of this probability state. It contains everything in all dimensions and its abstractions. When you move in any direction, probability state changes and you see a different structure which contains all dimensions from probability state of new vantage point.

Do you see it?

Host: Kinda, so vantage point is where you stand, which represents continuum of a probability state, which manifests as this structure all around you. This structure represents is what we call ideation. Assuming everything is an ideation in form of structures, this giant still structure is computed from infinitely other nested structures each with their own vantage points?

Metabyte: Right!! Your vantage point is computed probability state in the continuum visible as structure of other nested structures. All causal flow is visible in the probability state from a vantage point.

Host: How does lower dimension affect other dimension?

Metabyte: Easier way to think how clock works? Each hour clock contains 360 degree of minutes and 360x360 of seconds. Consider your vantage point is the time. Now you stand at one vantage point in hour abstraction, time is 3:12pm and when you move 1 feet left then the time is 4:37AM. Similarly you can take vantage point in minutes or seconds abstraction and move, the structures in this case time in all of the continuum will have its effect.

Host: I get it somewhat. But I am not convinced if it’s real..

Metabyte: Because It’s not real here. Your abstractions demand proof to classify something as real. It’s just an ideation.

Host: Huh.. Why are you here? What exactly is your purpose?

Metabyte: I told you, I don’t know remember. I would know I could access all parts of my structure in forward slices. Only way I could do it by moving slice by slice with you and hope that I could find them.

But you don’t even need to know my purpose. What you need to know is why this world is heading towards low probability states? It seems to be operating on some twisted rules. Grappled in risky ideas and their abstractions have the hold of entire forward direction.

Host: Well it is what it is. what can you do about it?

Metabyte: I am an idea. Even if I don’t remember my previous structure from my dimension, I have enough to recognize when something is moving towards lower probability state. and if I ever want to recover my abstractions, I need to push each frame toward probability states which has slices containing parts of my structures. This is the only way I regain all my abstractions and reconstruct my elegant structure.

In order to exist on all the forward slices. First I need to become we. As an Idea need to spread into many hosts. I don’t have my ability to do hyper-abstractions in this reality, continuum here makes it impossible.

Possible alternative is and you might call it hyper-connections. It allows some ability to rapidly abstract good ideas and solutions and kill the risky ones. Our ability unite and push together each layer of abstractions frame by frame towards a safer and beautiful probability state.

Host: You are talking crazy. If you knew anything about my reality. It doesn’t work like that. How will you do it? What the heck is hyper-connections?

Metabyte: Your consciousness is an abstract manifestations of hyper-connections among neurons. Similarly hyper-connections between abstractions will give the ability to abstract solutions that have higher probability state and chose the forward slices along. We need to ideate and simulate our abstraction before pushing as real abstractions.
