I haven’t been on my tumblr in so long, but I hated “The Whale” with Brendan Fraser so much that I felt obligated…nay…compelled, to come back and post my immediate thoughts posted to Facebook after seeing it. They read as follows:

I smoked a joint in front of my incredibly conservative and religious father at a show last night, with his blessing. Dude won’t even look in the direction of alcohol.
Without question the coolest thing I’ll ever do in my lifetime.

My favorite film, OF 👏🏻 ALL 👏🏻 TIME 👏🏻
Nature only wants to please itself. Get others to please it too. Likes to lord it over them. To have its own way. It finds reasons to be unhappy when all the world is shining around it. And love is smiling through all things.

You know that feeling when you think you’re developing like a new sexual fetish and you’re kinda like questioning what you’re doing the whole time and think it’s kinda weird or gross but like you’re not stopping?
That’s my relationship with eating sour cream rn.

In light of everything happening in our nation right now, I know it’s easy to get discouraged. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all of the division and hateful rhetoric, allowing it to lead you down a path of bitterness and cyniscm. Yes, this fucking sucks. But take a step back. It’s important to remember that it’s moments like these that compel society forward. All throughout history, change isn’t enacted from the top down. The powers that be aren’t the ones who who paint the broad social strokes of cultural revolution. From the very beginnings of human history, it’s the small, grassroots movements of people who stand up and say “enough, no more” that see us forward. That’s where change comes from. I don’t want to diminish the movement and the lives of those who are severely affected by what’s happening in our nation today in ways that I’ll personally never know or understand, rather, I just want these words to act as some kind of encouragement. This is hard. Unequivocally. But this is history. We’re living it, right now, together. Be on the right side of it, and relish it.
