Audrey hadn’t been told who lived in the room next door, but she had to admit that it was one of the better-looking guys she had seen in months. Yes, it had been a while since she had been dating. Let’s just say that her former experience with boys didn’t turn out so great. He had literally ran away from her. God knows why. Even though it might have something to do with a burning tv.
This guy was different somehow. He didn’t seem like the guy who liked to play games. Actually he looked like a nice guy, but she didn’t want to get disappointed if he wasn’t, so she decided to let the time show.
She leant forward and saw that his room was just as dark as hers. “Hey, do you know how to fix this?” she asked, waving a hand towards her pitched dark room. “I can’t see anything and I have to make some food. Do you want something, by the way? I’m going to make some pasta.” She put on her sweetest smile and drag a hand through her long, dark brown hair.
“Oh, and I’m Audrey Aspen. If you didn’t know, I arrived a couple of hours ago.”
When the Light Dies Out | Audrey & James
“Fucking keys” he mumbled to himself. The black door was a real pain in the ass, and if he tried to reflect over all the hours he had used outside that door, he guessed he could’ve read the bible 16 times or so.
In the end, the door creaked open, and the young student groaned satisfied as he entered his little apartment. It was pretty dark. But still bright enough so that people wouldn’t get depressed staying there. It was stylish… in a way. At least modern. He dropped his bag, and as the door shut, and he bent over to untie his shoes, a little “bzz” could be heard, and the apartment fell dark as a forest in the night. James, as a little night-club technician, he had a leatherman in his belt, and a little flashlight. He opened the little pouch, and got out the light, and lit it. Suddently he remembered his zippo-lighter in his pockets, and honestly became a little frustrated. He always took the first and “simplest” way. But, whatever.. He re-opened the door and heard a new, soft, flimsy voice, shout from the apartment across the hall. But… That apartment should’ve been empty.. He was just standing there for a second. Then he heard someone moving towards him inside the door. The door opened and to his great pleasure it was a girl at about his age. He smiled for a second and harked. “Ehm.. Hi.” He started. He looked into the girls eyes. She was pretty. “I’m James.. James Snyder” He waited. This was a bit awkward.. but whatever.

When the Light Dies Out | Audrey & James
Audrey had just settled down in her new apartment in New York. The cab driver had been talking non-stop about what the city had to offer and asked a lot of questions about what she was going to do there. In the end she had asked him to shut up, so she must have hurt his feelings, because he didn’t get out of the car to help her with her baggage.
Her parents had already been there with all the furniture, so the only thing missing now was some food. She decided to go to the grocery store later, because right now she wanted to watch some TV. Yes, Audrey was lazy when she wanted to be.
After going through all the channels on the TV, she sighed. There was nothing there that she wanted to watch. Why, she asked herself. Now she had nothing to do, so she got up from the couch, grabbed her purse and jacket and got out.
She locked the door and headed towards the grocery store she had seen when she had arrived. It was just around the corner. If it was something she wasn’t very good at, it was grocery shopping. She never knew what to buy. Sometimes she got out of the store with nothing but a chocolate. Even though she had a nice, slim body, she wasn’t exactly healthy. She eats too many hamburgers and drink coke every day. If it wasn’t for her love of jogging, she would have looked like an elephant.
This time she got out of the store with to full bags of food. Now she would have trouble to get rid of all of it. Maybe she could invite some friends over for lunch one day, if she got some and doesn’t scare them away. Her friends back in Vermont used to know when to stay away from her and when to back down, but everyone was strangers to her in this town. Maybe she would get into a fight, who knew? She had to be careful. At least until she got to know someone. Maybe her neighbors were friends-material?
When she got back home, she put everything she bought on its right place in the kitchen. It was hardly space for the eight pizzas in the freezer above the fridge. “Come on,” she muttered as she used all the power she had to get the last pizza into the freezer. After two whole minutes she shut the door to the freezer so hard it was a miracle it didn’t fell off.
Instead, the lights went out. “You’ve got to be kidding me!” she shouted into the darkness and stumped out of the kitchen.
