“Get his ass” Is so unreasonably funny to me. A huge win for the English language. Today’s version of “seize him” imo

Počasi in Slovenian means "slow" but in Czech počasí means "weather" and in Slovenian "weather" is vreme but in Russian "время" (vremya) means "time" and this is exactly why I shouldn't have studied two Slavic languages at the same time but here I am

after seeing so many language courses that require subscription or any sort of payment i really started to appreciate icelandic online website bc it has 6 icelandic courses from complete beginner to advanced all completely free. and as someone who actually tried it for 3 months i can say that they're great as well. we really need more of this

In Poland we don't say "of course". We say "You ask a boar if he shits in the woods?" and I think it's beautiful.

Some words in Polish language that are extremely literal and I find them endearing:
samochód (car) - lit. self-walker
przebiśnieg (snowdrop) - lit. snow-piercer
zimorodek (kingfisher) - lit. winter-born (?)
myszołów (buzzard) - lit. mousehunter
zębatka (cog) - lit. toother
this one is a bit more layered, because a more proper phrase for a cog is koło zębate (lit. toothed wheel), but zębatka is shorter, follows familiar naming convention (lodówka, pralka, zmywarka, etc.) and is extremely funny for me and I can't take it seriously
kroplówka (IV bag) - lit. a dripper :)

What are some of your favorite Russian sayings / proverbs?😊
I tried to think of ones that I actually use! In Russian, most are worded in such a particular way or they rhyme, I love them.
There's nothing more permanent than temporary (Нет ничего более постоянного, чем временное)
It never happened and now it happens again (Никогда такого не было и вот опять)
Make a fool pray (Заставь дурака богу молиться)
Work won't do itself, but tea also won't drink intself (Работа сама себя не сделает, но ведь и чай сам себя не выпьет)
From mud to prince (Из грязи в князи)
Cat out of the house—mice go dancing (Кот из дома — мыши в пляс)
The poor are inventive (Голь на выдумки хитра)
Be merry, beggars! (Гуляй, рванина)
