Taking a moment to celebrate the #littlevictories 🥰 I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t obsess over numbers pertaining to me and my art. I don’t make music for the numbers. I make music to express myself and connect with people. That being said, I do honor and celebrate what the numbers represent: the people who have connected with and been touched by music and message of the self-expression, self-awareness, power, joy, and magic of the Black girl ✨ My music has been available on iTunes/Apple Music since 2014 and I’ve never received more than 0-10 plays per week of any of my songs according to my weekly updates. But THIS WEEK y’all!! This week I’ve had a record number of 586 plays of my songs on Apple Music!! 🤯💖 I also have 15 listeners on Spotify! For. The longest time I only had 3 😜 All of this just out of the blue! And all I can say is thank you to all the beautiful people so far who have found and supported my music. Today, my family is taking a moment to honor the life of my dad. In some West African tribes it’s traditional to take this moment approximately 40 days after the death of your loved one. It’s been 43 days. It’s not easier. There’s just a little bit of distance now. I took a moment outside by a memorial pear tree in my backyard (we planted it for my late aunt about 15 years ago) to just take in this moment of my life and how much of a whirlwind this year has been. Lately this has become my happy place after work. My bed. A candle. My guitar. And a place to write down all of my thoughts. My mind has been heavy. So it’s nice to have a way to get the words out. This past week, I had the privilege of heading over to @fairhillstudios with my @capitolgroovedc family to record our upcoming release “Dig Deep.” We wrote it together to collectively express how we feel about the uprising and recent surge in the Black Lives Matter movement. I will be doing live stream events this month. Any and all donations received for the month of June will be used to buy protester supplies for grassroots org like @freedomfightersdc or sent to bail funds in protesting cities. Happy birthday to Fast Cars & Midnight! Over a year ago, I made a promise to work every day to honor my most authentic self in my music, to be unapologetic about my feelings, and to work every day to show up as my best artistic self. I’m so glad that FCAM is part of the musical landscape of the world, but I’m even more grateful for the journey that she set me on. This week, I will be participating in the Fly By Light Spring Showcase presented by One Common Unity. "One Common Unity is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that breaks cycles of violence and builds compassionate, healthy communities through the transformative power of music, arts, and peace education." So happy to be supporting the Girls Rock! DC Instagram Live Festival on Friday, May 22, 2020.

Girls Rock! DC is raising money for its online summer camp where Campers learn about women in rock, gender and cultural identity, band merchandise and promotion, conflict resolution and other skills young women need to rock out!

At the end of their week-long camp, our campers put on an afternoon showcase at an area nightclub for their families and supporters, performing their original songs and DJ sets.
