Thinking about it sometimes, y’all… like, what would be classic Syd and Carmy—overtly where the audience thinks OH something is happening—in that classic Bear fashion? When will the climax of that vibrant collaboration finally start to blossom? We’ve seen the edges of it: Sydney and Carmy finishing each other’s sentences, lighting up over the same ideas, getting excited over one tiny ingredient. But we’ve also seen the tension—miscommunications about the food, who’s changing what, who’s not staying in sync.

So I wonder: when will we, as the audience, finally see Sydney and Carmy and think, oh—this is the dish. Oh theey're attracted to each other, this is more than eating.

All I know is—the perfect dish- it better be erotic. And I don’t mean through overt physical affection. I mean love through the food. I want to blush watching a do-over, where they share a sundae or a pasta dish—each of their elements mixing exquisitely, perfectly balanced, and they’re just basking in the creative act together.

Make it intimate. Make us blush watching these two eat a meal together.

I could see the show making the act of creating the perfect dish itself feel like sex, or like creating a baby, or a star. Because throughout the show, we get these subliminal threads of Carmy wanting a family, wanting a partner. What better way to show real intimacy—the kind Carmy’s been searching for—than letting Sydney and Carmy look into each other’s eyes, in broad daylight, watching each other savor the perfect meal that is them. You know?

Something about Apothecary Diaries and the complexity of what it means to have a mother. Something about Maomao and her only memories of her mother being silence or a pain that has nothing to do with her but is reflected onto her anyway, and yet still engineering things so that Lakan, years later, would come to find and marry her. Something about all of the courtesans in the Verdigris House being like mother figures to Maomao, yet never paying attention to her when she cried. Something about Loulan doing everything in her power to not be a mother - taking drugs to avoid it, knowing that to have a child would be a selfish, cruel thing, even down to 'killing' the children who adore her. Something about Jinshi, and both of his mothers - the one who birthed him and the one who raised him. Anshi, and raising him to be mature and older than he should have had to be to be the opposite of his grandfather, the man who victimized her, and Ah-Duo, unable to be in his life because she chose to give him up. Something about mothers not being unconditional and uncomplicated; something about motherhood being absent, ugly, confined by circumstance or by past pain. Something about not wanting to be your mother; something about being too much like your mother. Something about how your mother haunts you regardless.

Don’t think about how hard it is for him to accept others as friends, and how hard Miae worked to crack his shell and let herself in.

Don’t think about their friendship actually meaning so much to him.

Don’t think about the fact that her simply treating him like a normal person despite what everyone else thinks or says helped him make good memories and even make friends with other students.

And ABSOLUTELY DO NOT think about how hurt he probably felt the moment Cheol thought Miae might be scared of him, that she might believe the rumors of his violent nature, that he is of might be what everyone says. Don’t think about him feeling betrayed bc he thinks Miae is siding with Jisu after everything they’ve been through, after the confusing events of last night, how? Why? After all the hard work that went into becoming friends…?

Anyway, don’t think about it.
