the winter soldier’s metal arm - recalibration

thought  spark  but  like,  there's  a  lot  of  feelings  around  the  bionic  arm.  for  the  most  part  james  grew  accustomed  to  it.  yes  it  is  a  part  of  his  body  now  and  he  grew  to  perceive  it  that  way  in  most  case  scenario  but  when  somebody  wants  to  look  at  it,  examine  it  he  feels  some  kind  of  very  internalized  shame.  the  arm  is  not  only  a  prosthetic  but  a  weapon  first  and  foremost.  it  was  always  designed  to  be  a  weapon  and  he  was  the  one  holding  it.  james  becomes  insanely  self  aware  of  it  when  people  want  to  look  at  it. 

there's  also  the  factor  of  it  being  his  literal  artificial  device  to  help  with  his  disability.  james  had  it  taken  from  him  a  lot  of  the  times  in  custody  and  it's  basically  stripping  him  off  his  autonomy  even  further  so  he's  wary  in  another  way  about  people  touching  it  or  trying  to  even  play  with  it  without  consent  (  don't  do  that.  it's  gross.  ) 

another  thing  is  that  bucky  does  a  lot  of  internal  self  loathing  and  the  arm  is  probably  the  worst  reminder  of  that.  he's  not  against  showing  it  but  he  just  feels  wary.  yeah  the  arm  is  pretty  cool  and  all  but  it's  not  a  toy  and  it's  not  to  be  admired.  it's  a  weapon,  and  a  harsh  reminder  for  bucky.
