“It baffles me how vast the difference between Outlast one, and by extension Whistleblower, and Outlast two are. Outlast one and Whistleblower were amazing games! The world was interesting and the characters were amazing and the plot was always interesting. But Outlast two? I dunno, it just really feels like it falls flat. Don’t get me wrong, visually and atmospherically the game is great! But the story felt confusing and really hard to follow. The notes you can find didn’t do half as good of a job as the first game and it’s dlc for revealing backstory and there wasn’t a ton to be parsed from the gameplay itself. Buuuuuut I still hold firm to the belief that Resident Evil eight was just a REALLY GOOD version of Outlast two! I mean a few things are changed to fit the universe but like, c’mon. If you’ve played both games it’s so obvious!”

punsandfuturekingsmen:
He nods. The answer is one he expected, one he was prepared to hear, but he can’t help but feel remorse graze along the core of his being like a blade’s edge, knowing he’d taken something she clearly– wanted, from her. But they couldn’t keep going too long. The longer they went, the more of a lie it’d be for them both.
He sighed and brushed back his hair. “I…am Arthur. Kind of.” He hadn’t really felt like it was true for a long time now. He wanted to be Arthur, but Arthur wasn’t him. But that was a whole other weirdness he didn’t need to get into. “I guess– the big thing is that I’m Arthur, but not from here. I’m…. well I’m sure you’ve heard of things like the multiverse theory, right?” His eyes moved to look anywhere but at her, something solidifying and heavy growing in his chest. “I’m just… you know. Arthur, from somewhere else.”
Vivi’s gaze raises just enough to be able to watch his lips as he spoke, but her head is still downturned a bit. Arthur, kind of? It lights her overactive brain on fire with possibilities, even through the sadness she still feels settled in on her shoulders.
Not from here? Multiverse? Pieces shift and click into place rapid fire, and beneath everything else she can feel excitement bubble. Had this been any other situation, she might’ve been bouncing off the walls by now. But not now, not when she’s still mourning the lie she’d told herself to try and fill the void from her own loneliness. It feels selfish, to think about. This was a new friend! A new opportunity! She should be so happy, and so excited. And she was! She already felt close to him. “Well...” Her voice sounds lighter than before when she speaks again, and her hand is pushed across the table towards him. She’s smiling, too, but not in the way that she would if she were trying to hide the way she’d felt previously. “It’s really nice to meet you, Arthur from somewhere else. I’m Vivi... from here.”

salverplatterskitchen:
She’s bouncey, and all of her movements were entransing. Platter couldn’t help but watch her With interest as he saw her enthusiasm grow minute by minute. It almost felt strange to see so much happiness on her face, it’s been so long since he has. If he could smile he would be, but since he has a lack of lips, his hair curls and twists into what appears to be either a mustache…. or his own grin.
…That lost expression was one he recognized. One he saw meant times before he… before… before he ended up here. He remembered seeing that face in his dreams. But never the purple. How odd.
He’ll have to ask her about it, but right now wasn’t the time. He floats to the side, his tail flicking to beacon her inside. “I’m Eager to make your acquaintance, Vivi. I’m almost just as eager as you are,” he ends with a chuckle that has a lot more of his emotion than he wanted to. Being composed might be more difficult in her presence. He’ll consider this to be more practice. “and yes I do live here, please come inside. And take your shoes off in the foyer. I imagine that you’re hungry, and I would be more than happy to make you something as we chat.”
Even from where she stood outside, it was evident that the foyer Was elegant. There’s Brown and deep Orange doors on either side, decorated with Golden designs etched into their surfaces. Creating small worlds and even smaller scenes that she could probably spend hours looking at to get the whole story. At the very back was glowing double doors, that stretched high above her. Three small yellow faces seemed to look at her from the doors windows.
Vivi wants to gasp as the other moves aside, beckoning her in. But she pauses just a few moments, to laugh. “I’m told it can be really hard to match my enthusiasm when I get going on something, but that’s okay! I think I’ve got enough for the both of us.” It was pretty customary for her to have more energy than those she usually interacts with, but it doesn’t bother her a bit! And besides, she’s just so happy with how this situation was turning out— maybe she’d need to start showing up at more places like this!
Beaming at the invitation inside, Vivi grabs both sides of her skirt and gives a playful curtsey to the ghost. “Why, thank you so much, Mister Platter!” She sing-songs, before skipping inside. “Food, too? Gosh it’s a really kind offer. I could definitely eat!” Did she have no sense of self preservation? Who just went excitedly into some random paranormal creature’s house and accepted food without a second thought? But she makes sure to stop just inside the foyer, leaning down to unbuckle her shoes and slip them off before picking them up. She didn’t exactly know where to put them, and just leaving them sitting out felt impolite.
But when she raises her head to look around— oh how the stars in her eyes multiply. A soft gasp escapes her as her eyes dart from one detail to the next, a soft “oh wow,” leaving her. But those glowing doors are what catches her attention, and she unwillingly takes a few steps closer to them. Surprise when she sees the little faces peeking out at her, Vivi blinks a few times before offering over her award-winning smile to them, and a small wave. That taken care of she spins back towards Platter excitedly, her skirt and the long ends of her scarf swirling with her. “This place is amazing!” There’s only a brief moment’s pause before she adds in. “Where should I put my shoes, again?”

Lance lands on his ass, and the glower she gets at her almost sing-song voice and the stifled laugh is enough to sear the outside of a steak in seconds.
Tumblr media
“Why the fuck’re you doing magic teleportin’ thingamajig shit here’ve all places? Ain’t you got nothin’ better to do than give an old man an early grave?” He groused, using a hand on the door to find his feet beneath him. “What the hell’re you doing poppin’ up behind people like yer some kinda slasher movie villiain or some shit anyways, christ on a howitzer–.”
Vivi has an awfully hard time containing the grin on her face as she stares down at him a few moments, enjoying her work. But she’s not cruel! She does offer a hand to help him up— even if he doesn’t take it.
Tumblr media
“Well! I’m still kinda figuring out how to work it just right.” She admits, producing a very strange looking artifact for Lance to see. “You just happened to be my most convenient test subject! Heyy hey that’s a really good idea though! I could get dressed up and scare the daylights outta people! What are you thinking, should I do Ghostface? I don’t think I’m tall enough to be a scary Michael.”
“Besides, you can’t tell me it wasn’t at least a little funny.”

Vivi Yukino was not a drinker, that’s for sure. At least, not a heavy one. She found the taste and the burn of alcohol to be off-putting at best, revolting at worst. And yet, she’d found herself at a bar. She hadn’t actually drank anything with alcohol, all virgin stuff, but she’d been trying her hardest to make friends— her own best friend had practically outright abandoned her at this point, and while Mystery was a good dog she found herself slipping into misery in the emptiness her loneliness provided.
She had just wanted to make friends.
Unfortunately for her trouble never seemed to stop rearing it’s ugly head. The bad kind of trouble, too, not the fun stuff. The bad kind of a group of men turning horrible, unwanted, unfriendly attention on her. Vivi had left as quickly as she could have. There was respite in the cool air outside, away from those hungry stares and jeers, and she tried to take a moment to allow herself to breathe as she walked away from that place. And then trouble reared again, in the form of a hand on her, one of them had followed.
Her face is shock and confusion and fear lays right behind her eyes as he moves before her, causing her to move back. Then that grip adjusted on her shoulders, tighter than before, a warning to not run. He’s laughing and smiling but there’s so much tightness in her chest, she can tell this isn’t a friendly interaction. Her first instinct is to sock him right in his face, knock that poisonous grin into next year. She doesn’t want a fight after all, she just wants to go home and forget about any of this. Maybe it would be easier if she tried to talk him down a little bit, keep things calm so this doesn’t end up spiraling completely out of control.
Vivi tries to force up a laugh to match his but it comes out a bit more nervous sounding than she’d intended. That hand running down her arm, now holding her by the elbow, has disgust wrenching in her gut. She feels like she’s going to be sick. “I don’t doubt it.” It was a lie, this guy couldn’t treat a rock right, if she had to guess. “I’m really flattered y’know, but I don’t think my boyfriend would appreciate me taking you up on the offer.” A subtle drop but she tried to emphasize it best she could— even though she didn’t actually have a boyfriend. It was a nice way of saying please leave me alone, stop your creepy advances! Having said her piece she tries to back away again a little bit, trying to pull from his grip as politely as possible.
Starter for @icyremembrance
It’s dark out, the sun just dipping below the horizon. Arthur walked along the sidewalks, glancing through the windows of shops. He was thirsty and hungry, so if he could just find a restaurant - or even a small convenience store that he could spend the little money he had left and some supplies. Although he wasn’t having any luck - typical. There was cake shops, and any coffee shop that he looked through had prices that were way out of his budget. Arthur curses under his breath, shoving his hands into his pockets and continuing his truck. He has a Jean jacket on over his vest, the wind a little too chilly to go without sleeves.
He squeezes his eyes shut, blowing into his fleshy palm to warm up his fingers. Only to snap open when a familiar voice broke through his train of thought. He blinks several times, glancing around. His hope growing in his gut like a bubble- was that vivis voice? Holy shit, maybe she could help him get home!
Her bright blues stick out under the light of a street light, and even more noticeable was the look on her face, and the guy who was too close to her. Arthur’s lip twitches as his hope twists into a ferocity that made his fists ball tightly, and he changed course. Making a beeline straight toward the pair.
Said man was inching close into her space, holding her shoulders to keep her in place as he chattered and laughed.
“Stay with me? You just got here, and I know my friends can be assholes, but I can treat you right. Cmon. I’ll show you a better time than those freaks.” He says in between chittering laughs, running his palm down her bicep and gripping her elbow. “Such a pretty gal like yourself shouldn’t be on your own out here.”

He can tell the smile and the sunshine is artificial. It makes his gut twist. How does he even begin the conversation that he knows is going to hurt her? But he also knows as well as she does that the end is coming. He’s sure she does when he felt the way her feet dragged all the way to the door.
Still, he leaned back in his chair, wiping at his face. He pulled down on his features, letting his goatee graze his palm. “….You have to have noticed there’s… differences.” He started, fingers then moving to play with one of the loops of his belt. His eyes search her face. “I mean….you’ve probably known Arthur a long time. So there’s no way you didn’t notice things are off.”
There are a few moments, a few quiet moments where it feels like they’re suspended— neither wanting to get into what had to be done. Whatever it is. No more delaying, no more giddiness and laughter and skipping down the street. Somehow she already feels like she’s already mourning what was lost not even two minutes ago.
She looks at his face. So familiar, but so foreign. He’s not hers, somehow, and she knows it without him saying a word. The differences are as clear as day, after all. It’d been so easy to ignore in their earlier ease but when she looks at him she can’t help but to see it. Not that it was a bad thing, just... different. Vivi’s looks away from his face, eyes turning down at the table where her fingers are messing with the edges of her sleeves. She’s smiling still but her sadness is so clear behind her eyes, and in the soft quietness of her voice. “Yeah... I noticed.” She lets go of a breath, one that makes her shoulders drop slightly. “I’ve known Arthur basically my whole life.” The edges of her smile waver but she keeps it up, despite her feelings. “But you must be here for a reason, right? Are you... a doppelgänger, or some kind of mimic, or something..?” The question was almost embarrassing, considering how willing she’d been to pretend they had known each other forever.

It almost felt like they both knew what was coming as the door opens. She was still sounding playful, but he’d felt the almost nervous trepidation, seen the way she slowed and then faked those last few jovial steps she wasn’t really feeling. Her smile was plastic. He knew her too well not to see the seams, or feel that sinking in his gut.
A smile still crosses his face at her curtsey. But he says nothing as he follows her inside, feeling the weight of responsibility sitting back on his shoulders like a heavy coat. He follows her in. “Of course, milady.” He teases back, but it’s lacking a little of the flair he might’ve used. Instead, he moves them towards one of the nicer tables, with a booth on both sides. The leather squeaks as he slides in.
“……I need to talk to you.” His fingers lace together on the table. The last embers of silliness dwindle away from his face. “It’s…. complicated. But important.”
Please, just a few more minutes, she wasn’t ready for this to be over. Vivi found herself desperately wanting to hold onto the good time they’d been having before this, to grab it and not let go. Maybe she’d been more lonely than even she had imagined... but it was so nice, just like old times. All good things have to come to an end eventually. But she presses on as they enter, trying to be so so happy and warm and silly, maybe even more so than before. She didn’t exactly mean to be, she just wants... she wants this to be okay. Whatever this is.
It’s difficult when their conversation has come to a halt, and they’re not holding onto each other anymore. She can’t squeeze his hand, or laugh with him about something either of them said. Whatever was happening, there was no more putting it off. And maybe it was for the best, she knew that all of this had somehow been off or wrong, but at the same time it’d been the happiest she’s been in a long time. Genuinely, and Arthur had given that to her.
Climbing into the seat happens slower than it should have, but when she settles in Vivi is still smiling at him, still giving him her sunshine as she tilts her head curiously. “You know you can tell me anything, Artie. I’m all ears. What’s on your mind?”

salverplatterskitchen:
There’s a hint of familiarity in her appearance. One that takes him several seconds to figure out or place. it’s been a long time since hes been home common and been an even longer time since he’s seen a gal such as yourself… it almost makes him nostalgic, Almost gives him a sense to scoop her up and keep her inside and never let her go. But he doesn’t. No. He must restrain himself, and show that he is a proper and good host. Not that her enthusiasm wasn’t rubbing off on him.
“Hohoho~ Well aren’t you the charmer? I’m flattered really,” he leans down and holds out his hand for her, both bowing and so she didn’t have to crane her neck like that. It would do her no good if she were to get a crick in her neck because of someone like him “my name is salver platter, Although many would have referred to me as Lewis pepper if not for my unusual appearance. It’s nice to meet you Vivi. It’s been a long time since I’ve had company like you.”
There’s so much to take in all at once, Vivi’s eyes dart around the ghost in eager bursts, one detail catching her attention immediately after the next even if she’s not quite ready to move on. The general consensus? Oh he was so cool! She’s so excited she feels like she could just up and climb him like a pole! To what extent? To see him better of course! To explore! Her eyes are so wide, so filled with sparkles, it takes everything in her power not to explode.
And then he’s leaning down, offering his hand to her, and her grin surely couldn’t get any bigger than it already was. Vivi takes his hand as best as she can and gee— it’s so much bigger than her own! “Salver Pl—“ In a single moment her voice dies, enthusiasm gone. A purple glow overcomes her eyes, and her expression falls completely. It’s like that for a few moments, with her eyebrows furrowed and a look of distress there, but finally she manages to shake her head and clear it away. She offers another smile, but it’s slightly smaller now. “Sorry, uh... Salver Platter, right? I’m so excited to meet you! Do you live here?” She wastes no time in picking back up her earlier eagerness, at least.

punsandfuturekingsmen:
The more they talked, the more he was sure the mirth and the forefront wasn’t just an carefully sculpted fabrication on her part. It was real, and it was warm. “I can like more than one thing at a time.” He spat his tongue at her, hand coming over his hoodie in mock offense. “Pfah! See if I invite you over when I make something fancy liked grilled salmon next time. You’ll just have to stand outside my window as the rain comes down and look in longingly.” He shook his head, expression dramatic and ever so desolate as he pretended to wipe at a tear.
Tumblr media
“Honestly, it’s worth it though. Because– yeah that chicken. Though my favorite will still be the milkshakes. Particularly the strawberry or the vanilla. Or the seafood mac and cheese….it’s a tossup. But they’re all good, so you know–. Can’t go wrong if I’m prepared for flavor town to sock me good.” His grin was probably somewhere between cheeky and sheepish, given the heat on his face and the pull at his lips. He juttered between both sensations as it was, excited and nervous and flustered at the same time– each second was whiplash, and while some of it was Vivi’s happiness, so much more was his own oscillating feelings, making it hard to keep himself contained when each second it was a new reminder or new nostalgia or new joy or new guilt. He felt like a child again, excitable and all over the place without a proper reign on himself.
It had to be seeing her like this.
Something sombered as he continued, though, and he looked back at her. She was still smiling, but the cloud was back, dulling her eyes from bright cyan blues to deeper, ocean-storm shades. She was still happy, still smiling, and it was real, but there was something painful just behind it. A crack, a hairline fracture, running through her mask. She could fake it well for anyone, but he was him, and he knew what every twitch of her lips, dart of her eyes, hell even the wiggle of her ears, meant. He started wondering what he’d said to shift things, revisiting what he’d said, but then she continued and he offered her a small smile.
It had to be about his other friends. If Vivi had felt left alone, if she still thought he was her Arthur, maybe that felt like admission he’d been hanging out with others and avoiding her. Maybe he should keep mentioning them to a down-low, until they were on the same page.
“Man, I haven’t played that game, but I think I watched you play it. So I think I know who you’re talking about.” He squeezes her hand. “Probably like that.” Continuing forward, he caught sight of the door. He forced himself not to slow down further on seeing it. He felt mellow too now, but it wasn’t a bad thing. It just was the priming and preparation he needed, before cluing Vi in. “I’m glad you admire my super duper hard work.” He chuckled. “It helps when I have a tenacious friend like you to inspire me.” He bumped her arm with the gentlest of elbows, before moving forward to open the door for her when they reached the entrance.
“Oh, woe is me, I’ll be forced to stand outside your window as the rain mixes with my tears. Hoping that you might glance in my direction and take some small pity on me— the hungry stay cast aside.” Vivi laments dramatically, free wrist coming to rest on her forehead as she leans into his arm. It’s quick to devolve into laughter though, her display making it harder to walk with him. Although, dragging Arthur around with her own dramatics was something she was definitely used to.
She offers a sigh, something between exasperation and agreement. “Oh it’s all top notch. I’ve made it my personal goal to eat through their entire menu! They said they wouldn’t serve it to me all at once, though.” She snickers at the memory of her asking. It had been met with lots of disbelief and concern, to say the least. “For me I think I like the chocolate milkshakes! But that doesn’t mean I won’t try to steal sips of yours, too.” A playful wink, she’d always been known as a bit of a menace when it came to food. Specifically consuming ungodly amounts of it. What could she say? She liked what she liked and didn’t really care what anyone else thought.
“Really? ...huh! I guess you’re right. I still remember how confused you were when I was trying to explain everything. I wouldn’t blame you if you blocked out such a traumatic memory.” Another laugh, she warms all the way through remembering what it’d been like, sitting with him as she played. Everything was always so much more fun when he was around. But the warmth wilts, ever so slightly, when she finally looks away from him and realizes that the restaurant’s front doors are well within reach. She doesn’t know what it is, maybe it’s Arthur’s dipped mood— but she can feel like all of this is coming to some sort of a head. Unlike her dear friend she does slow down, just a little bit, but tries to play it off by then adding a skip to her step as she bumps his elbow and offers him that bright grin. She finally releases him for the first time since latching on, only to grab the edges of her skirt and give a playful curtsey before heading inside. “Why thank you, Sir Kingsmen! How very gentlemanly of you.”
