Note
what supplies do you use for your art?
Traditional:
Pencils - I use any 2H pencil for my first sketch because it’s easy to erase without leaving marks behind on the paper and it’s quite light. Then I begin to darken the proper lines of the sketch with my Pentel Techniclick mechanical pencil which I fill with 0.5 2B lead.
Ink Pens - If I’m doing a lined or coloured piece, I usually line my sketch with the Pentel Brush Pen in ‘black.’ I sometimes use my Pentel Pocket Brush Pen but it’s quite inky so I tend to use that for bigger pieces or backgrounds and use the other brush pen for finer details.  To get really small details that would be difficult with the brush tip, I use the Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen in S or XS. When I’m doing ink sketches in books or just to outline stuff for digital art, I just use any black ink biro. The brand I use is PaperMate InkJoy. If I’m looking for coloured lines, I use my Staedtler Triplus Fineliners which came in a pack of 10.
Gouache - I’ve only just started my attempts to use Gouache so I bought a cheaper brand that is still good quality, Reeves Gouache Watercolour 10MI set which comes with 24 colours.
Acrylic - I just use the acrylic paints my school gives me for my art classes which is the Global Colours ‘Fine Art Student’ acrylics in white, black, red, blue, and yellow. They work pretty well for me and are a reasonable price for the quality they produce.
Watercolour - I made the big mistake of purchasing an expensive set of watercolours which I don’t even use so I wouldn’t recommend this brand unless you use watercolours a lot or are planning to upgrade otherwise you might spend way too much money on it and end up giving up on it. Start cheap! Anyways, I have the Sennelier L’Aquarelle  French Artists’ Watercolour Travel Set which ones with 8 tubes of watercolour paint, a mixing palette, and I believe two brushes.
Markers - I use Copic Ciao and Copic Sketch markers for colouring traditional work which I highly recommend as they although they have a lot of cheaper alternatives, they have an unbelievable amount of colours and they blend so easily even without the colourless blender. I also have a Winsor & Newton Promarker Blender and a Chameleon Colour Tones Pen in the colour NU1 ‘Bisque.’ I sometimes use my Faber-Castell PITT coloured and monochrome brush tip pens but they’re quite blocky so I tend to only use them for small details or solid backgrounds.
Coloured Pencils - I actually don’t use coloured pencils all that much but I have the Faber-Castell ‘Classic Colour Pencils’ set which comes with 12 coloured pencils.
Other - For shading and blending pencil lines, I use the Derwent Paper Blender which I would highly recommend having. It’s cheap and blends pencil nicely.
Digital:
Tablet - I use the Wacom Intuos in small. I got this tablet when I first became interested in digital art and it was around $99 NZD but I’ve seen cheaper, used ones online going for around $60-75 NZD if you can’t afford that. It doesn’t have a screen and it is a little small but I would definitely recommend this tablet to any beginner digital artists. It doesn’t come with any extra nibs so if your pen wears out, you’ll have to buy the nibs separately though I doubt you’ll use the tablet that much at first. I’ve had my tablet for nearly 3 years now and my tablet it still working reasonably well with the odd glitch here and there and I still haven’t worn my nib. There’s no point in spending over $1000 on a tablet if you end up not liking digital art. I’m planning to upgrade to an iPad Pro within the next two years or so.
Programme - I use Adobe Photoshop CC which works well for me. You can get a free 14 day trial before you have to start paying monthly fees and I know some people can’t afford that or beginner artists want to build their skill before paying for a subscription. So a free programme that I would recommend is Krita which works on both Windows and Mac. It has similar features and tools to Photoshop so it should be easy to swap over when you want to change.
That’s pretty much all the main art supplies and tools I use for my artwork but feel free to ask me any specific questions about any of these items or if you have another question, send me an ask! Remember: it’s not about the tools. It’s about the skills. You don’t need fancy equipment to make good art. Just keep practicing!

My contribution for the Meet the Artist thing! I couldn’t fit in all of my likes because there wasn’t enough room and I like way too many things but here’s the top faves (excluding dragon age)! If you have any other questions, feel free to send me an ask!
