I dare you to write about an invention gone wrong
What were the intentions b behind the invention? Were these intentions good, bad, or neither? What goes wrong and how? How does this affect the inventors whether physically, professionally, or emotionally?

I dare you to write about this photo
Tumblr media
Write whatever you like, but try to capture the scene. Is the canal familiar? What emotions does it evoke? What are the sounds, smells, sights?
Be creative!

I dare you to write about a fictional holiday
What does the holiday represent? What are the myths behind it? What are the practicalities around it? How does it tie together the natural and supernatural world? Is it the biggest holiday of the year or are there multiple holidays that are equally important?

I dare you to write in a new POV
Write in the POV of a character you need to get to know better, or just a character you want to know better. Take a break from your current narrative and rediscover your story from another's eyes.
Or, in a more technical understanding of the prompt, try writing in a different POV (1st, 2nd, 3rd limited, 3rd omniscient) than you usually do.
Not feeling fiction? Write a memory of yourself from the POV of someone else.

I dare you to write about a discovery that changes the world
What's the discovery? When was it made? How does the world react and change to this discovery? Does it impact day-to-day life right away or does it cause a slow, cultural shift?

I dare you to write about your first ever character
Dredge them up from your past's imagination. What first drew you to them? What do you still love about them? What would you change?
Think of them as a remaster and write them a new scene.

I dare you to write "So. Tell me about your sacrificial lamb."
Who is this sacrifice? How willing/in-the-know are they? How do those around them rationalise the situation? What does the tone of the speaking character say about them?

I dare you to write or design an in-world media excerpt
What do your characters see day-to-day in this world? What advertisements give us a taste of their life? What are the headlines? The editorials written in response to world events? What web-pages or apps exist?
Think outside the box!

I dare you to write about a character's darkest fear
Be creative with it. If you can, choose a character you're working with currently. Does their fear come to pass? Is it just a nightmare? Can they not get the thought of it out of their head?

I dare you to write "It doesn't matter how you lose, only that you will"
Be creative with it. Who is speaking to whom? What does the character have to lose? Is this a moment of threat or resignation? How does this moment come about and where does it go?
Think outside the box!

I dare you to write something you've been avoiding
Be creative with it.
Choose a scene, poem, memory, journal entry etc that you've been avoiding writing. Whether you've been procrastinating due to perfectionism, anxiety, boredom, writer's block, or any other emotion that's difficult to process... it's finally time to start or, if you're feeling strong, finish.
Let yourself get something imperfect onto the page.
Think outside the box!

I dare you to write something inspired by one of the ten most recent songs you've listened to
Be creative! What does this song say to you? Is it an impression of emotions, a scene in your head, a moment frozen in time? Build on this and see where it takes you. Anything is welcome from poetry to prose, fiction to non.
Think outside the box!

I dare you to write a story around this image
Bonus points: "[...] had one decision to make: to jump or to run."
Be creative! Who, or what, led your character here? Staircases alone are liminal spaces--where does this one begin and end? Where does this character's story begin and end?
Think outside the box!

I dare you to write a love letter/story/poem to your favourite season
Be creative with it. Write it as yourself or as a character. Write to your season literally or as an allegory. Feel free to anthropomorphise or even deify, whatever you like.
Think outside the box!

I dare you to write about a land where whoever physically holds the deed owns the property
Be creative! How does this law affect the people? How many evil deeds (pun intended) have been pulled off to gain a property? Alternatively, how many have used the ability to simply hand over a property to another for good?
How do people protect these deeds? How far will they go, and in what genre? Is there magic? High-tech? Specially trained guards?
Think outside the box!

Hello, lovelies!
I'm sure most of you think that this blog has died. And, to be entirely fair, it had. Luckily, in the world of blogging, death can be temporary! I've moved continents, finished school, started a new career (twice really), and started a life with my partner. All in four somewhat crazy years.
As I ease back into my writing life, particularly this blog, I'm hoping to post once a week to start. I don't think I'll ever get back to every day, but we'll see where the wind takes us.
And, of course, if you want more or want to provide more fun for your fellow followers, please remember our submissions page.
I'm truly looking forward to hearing from you! Kisses, IDYTW

I dare you to write your favourite historical figure into your favourite fictional world
Be creative! Make it silly or tragic; a dramatic reveal or that they've always been there. Set it in the fictional world of another or a favourite of your own. How do they affect this world? How does this world affect them?
Think outside the box!
If you’re brave enough to post, don’t forget to tag I dare you to write and to indicate whether or not concrit is welcome.
