Yeah, I don’t know. It can be hard to tell when they aren’t next to others for comparison, but it very well could be iridovirus.

There was one post where you asked me how I identified the species when it was rolled into a ball, and I’ve been procrastinating answering it. Because Lowkey I jizzed it

Relevant to this account because I was correctly identifying A. nasatum with no idea how I did it for months before I figured out an actual scientific way to differentiate common Armadillidiums.
Also haha funny birders come up with a stupid name for something again (no one is surprised)

I’m thinking Armadillidium granulatum, but I’m not sure if it has the bumps or if it’s just dirty. The patterns and shape seem closer to granulatum than vulgare, but it really could be either.

@identifying-isopods-in-posts my friend found this one recently near Karlštejn castle in the Czech republic. We think it could be Armadillidium vulgare but we're not sure

Pretty sure they’re all A. vulgare.
One sure way to tell them apart, because often they can have similar patterns, is their faces! A. nasatum have little protruding “noses” and vulgares do not.

Here’s two nasatums with the “nose” very visible.
Also, side note: nasatums basically never have yellow coloration. They don’t have the yellow-green blotches that are sometimes present in vulgare, so when I see one with yellow blotches I immediately assume vulgare. There might be a mutation that makes the whole body somewhat yellowish, but I haven’t seen it yet.

this isn't even all of them

what is iridovirus?
Iridovirus is a family of viruses that affects numerous species of arthropods
The one that affects isopods is known as Invertebrate Iridescent Virus 31, or isopod iridovirus.
An isopod symptomatic of iridovirus will appear very shiny and iridescent blue. It is fatal. I don’t know much about it other than that, I’m not really sure how it spreads or anything.
From the Wikipedia page of iridovirus: an infected Armadillidium vulgare, next to a number of healthy individuals. It’s really easy to see the blue color next to the healthy ones.

Everything is so rushed. People in their twenties complaining about being old, sped up songs, sped up videos, too many things to do in such a short time. We have lost the art of lingering.
