Palm cockatoo – Probosciger aterrimus
It’s strange how corvids are vastly more represented in spec bio/evo/sci fi projects these days then parrots are

Spix's macaw – Cyanopsitta spixii

The Association for the Conversation of Threatened Parrots announced yesterday that the babies of a released, wild pair of Spix's macaw have successfully fledged the nest! The report added that the babies are being taught wild behaviors by their parents, and are being occasionally babysat by their older sibling!
They also reported on a trio of babies in captive care that are all doing well!

These beautiful birds went completely extinct in the wild in 2000, but were reintroduced from captive stock a couple years ago. Many of the released birds have survived, and are now breeding on their own in the wild!
There's been some conflict about the conservation efforts, so I'm happy to hear that the now-wild ones are establishing themselves well.
