Tommy really meant it when he said that he was going to win his family back. For now, he would lay down and let the business follow its curse.

                                                    Shelby’s home

“Everyone, gather around. I have something to say”. Tommy said.

Even tough his pride was screaming inside, he decided that his family was more important. Ben, Sarah and Love joined him in the living room and waited patiently for what he had to say.

“Oh, you decided to grace us with your presence.” Love murmured.

Tommy ignored her jab.

“Yeah, I also want to say sorry for not being around lately. How are my children doing?”

“Daddy, what’s in the bag?” Sarah asked.

“Well, I happen to have my little girl’s favorite toy. Close your eyes, sweetheart.”

Tommy reveled a perfect, real looking dollhouse. Sarah let a weak scream and jumped into her dad’s arm, then started examining her gift. Even Love seemed happy and for the first time, they looked like a real family.

“Don’t worry, Ben, I haven’t forgotten about you, mate”.

Tommy went to get something behind the door and showed Ben a brand-new bicycle. Ben’s eyes sparkled in joy. 

“No way! Are you fucking kidding me?” Ben said.

“Benjamin Shelby!” Love scolded him.

The children didn't pay attention to her, too absorbed with their toys.

“Well, it’s bedtime. And before you say anything else, tomorrow you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy. Good night!” Tommy said, already thinking on his other surprise.

A choir of good nights later and the children went to bed, leaving Tommy and Love by themselves. He left to get the so-called surprise, while Love resumed her reading.

“The gifts weren’t only for the kids. I have something for you too” Tommy said and Love looked up. He brought a suit bag and opened, revealing a fur coat. 

“Tommy… Where the hell did you get that?” 

“I bought it. It’s yours. Do you want to try it out?” 

Love was too speechless to be indifferent to Tommy. Then, it hit her. The good guy attitude, the gifts. What is he up to?

“Wha… What are you planning, Thomas? You don’t just do things. You always have something in mind, and if you think that buying me an expensive coat is going to shut me down, you’re wrong.”

Even though Tommy was hurt to hear that, he understood where she was coming from. He neglected her and for that he was very sorry.

“Love, I want to make things right. I know that I haven’t been the best father or husband.” 

She went to say something, but he was faster. “And before you complain, I’m aware that I’m late, but I will beg if I need to. Back then, I couldn’t tell you how I felt. I couldn’t burn you with the details. The thing is: I came home a different man, hungry for power, after I saw how the riches were able to get away from the war, while we had to fight. I couldn’t touch you because I wouldn’t allow myself to corrupt your body with my bloody hands, and I would be lying if I said that I didn’t miss you every fucking second. So, please, give me a chance to be better and be the man this family needs.”

“I… Don’t know what to say. This is too much.”

“Then don’t say anything now.”  

Love’s mind was wondering between Tommy, the kids, Arthur, the war. It was indeed too much to handle. That was why, after Tommy left to the office again, she went back to Arthur’s arms. 

                                                 LOVE’S POV

I think I am a horrible person. My husband just poured his heart out for me and hours later I was fucking his brother. My head is so confused right now. I want to be better, I do, but how to proceed in this situation? It’s not like I don’t love Tommy, I was and still am completely in love with him, but we fell apart over the years. 

When I left Arthur’s house, a thought came over my head. My family spent four years apart, I’ll not be the one making it harder for us. I’ll make it work. Tommy and me and Arthur. And they need me, and to be honest, I need both of them.

                                                   LOVE’S POV

We’re married, but there is no passion anymore. I hate him for what he did to me, and he’ll hate me for what I am doing to him. We have children and that is the only reason why we are still married. I cheat on him with his brother, but I have a good explanation for that.

Tommy was the one that left first. We were extremely happy, and I was expecting, at the time I didn’t know I would birth twins. Then, the war happened, and he decided to volunteer. I was devastated. I lost my husband, my father and brothers. A few months after their departure, Ben and Sarah arrived into this world. During the war many men died and four years later some came back, but they weren’t the same. Most were damaged for what they saw and did.

When Tommy came back, he didn’t allow me to be his wife. He locked himself in the office and started working non-stop. I needed my husband. I tried to talk to him and help, maybe understand what he was going through, but he wouldn’t listen. Tommy was so keen on building his empire that he left me behind.

Two years went by, and I found comfort in another man. That man was my husband’s brother, Arthur. He, too, was broken and to be honest, he seemed the worst of all of them. Arthur was suffering alone and didn’t have a wife to soothe him or try to understand, so I offered myself. This is the honest fucking truth. 

At first, he didn’t accept, blinded by his love for Tommy, but then, in one of his lowest moments, he came to me, and we fucked. He made me feel like a woman again. Desired. Wanted. Worthy. The sex was great. Rough, hard and no feelings attached.

Look, I gotta a question for you

Is it worth it?

Real love, do you think you deserve it?

And for the first time in a long time I came. So that became something else, and I began leaning on him. It is pure carnal, but every time Arthur fucks me, I feel alive again.

Sometimes I felt guilty whenever I looked at my children, but then I learned that Thomas was cheating, so that feeling is over now.

And after they were done, Arthur Shelby would always feel guilty for fucking his brother’s wife. 

On the same day earlier, Tommy had looked right into his eyes and told him his plan to expand their business. 

“Arthur, you listen to me. Polly is mad and John is way too stupid. You’re the only one I trust. We’ve been there, brother.” 

“And now that the business is booming, I have two things in mind: win my family back and control the fucking country.”

Tommy said and Arthur only nodded, feeling too guilty to say anything.
