Bucky is in the middle of making a very valid point about… something, when Sam is suddenly no longer walking away from and ignoring Bucky. Instead, he’s coming towards Bucky, looking pissed off but with something unfamiliar in his eyes.  Bucky stands his ground as Sam gets in his face.  Sam’s been taking risks that don’t make any goddamn sense and Bucky isn’t going shut up about it.  Not even when Sam yells, “Shut up!”  Not even when Sam’s hand is suddenly on his ass.

But then Sam is kissing him and Bucky decides the argument can wait, because -unlike Sam- Bucky isn’t a control freak.  Unlike Sam, Bucky can be flexible once in a while.  And unlike Sam, Bucky has been falling in love with his partner for months.

Falling is definitely the word for it, because Bucky has been trying to stop himself, but there is nothing to grab on to, nothing to slow him down.  Even during their angriest fights, Sam still gives Bucky that look that says, “I’m here for you just as soon as you decide to stop being stupid.”

Like being stupid is a choice for Bucky.  He’s like a 100-year-old baby, stumbling through life and having tantrums because he doesn’t know how to use his words yet.  His freeze-dried brain can’t adapt to this new way of existing where he makes all his own choices and gets to decide what kind of person he wants to be.  The only thing that consistently makes sense is Sam.  Sam is his loadstone, his Northern star, pointing him in the right direction and keeping him from getting completely lost.  

Sam’s also gorgeous with a dazzling smile and an ass that makes Bucky forget how to function.   Bucky desperately wants to fuck his moral compass.  He doesn’t choose to be stupid, he’s just put together that way.  He can’t even blame HYDRA for that one.  Bucky has always wanted the wrong people, or maybe he just wants the right people in the wrong way.

He wished he could be like Torres.  He wants to be sweet and charming with an innocent crush that Sam can indulge, but that’s hardly an option for Bucky.  He can occasionally pull off charming, but all his innocent and most of his sweet were left back in the forties.
