I also think Caroline has more potential as a premed than Elena. Remember how Caroline would study biology with Jesse before Elena killed him?
Elena becoming a doctor is one of the dumbest things that the writers have come up with. I think they're trying to bring back the 'wanting to help people' Elena, but they already fucked up Elena's character so bad that there's really no going back.
If anyone should be doing premed, it should be Bonnie. She’s proven herself to be the most intelligent person in the group, the only one to go to school and do her homework besides Matt and Jeremy, and also the most researched of the bunch (she’s always reading and studying, even if it is to learn more magic, but it proves she’s got the discipline for it). Also, magic and medicine are sort of similar, both involve problem solving and fixing someone (in medicine you have to figure out what is wrong with the patient and diagnose them and cure them, which is what Bonnie does all the time with her spells).
But of course, Bonnie is dead and we never even got to learn what her major was.

She'll probably compel her way to a medical degree and then just inject people with her blood.
Doctors are supposed to save people's lives and that is not who Elena is anymore. Remember when she just stood there as Damon fed a pleading Katherine to Silas?
Plus, when has Elena ever shown an interest in medicine or science even? She does not have the brainpower to be a doctor. Seriously the writers are so full of shit.

Can we talk about how it’s pretty much Elena’s fault that Damon died?
He told her he will do it on his own and but little miss golden vagina jumped into the car because it’s oh so romantic to die together with your big love.
And then Damon had to look for her and couldn’t get back in time.
Fuck, I don’t even like Damon, but this is seriously pissing me off.
