I knew that shot was familiar somehow.

I’ve never understood those people who say, “Katara and Zuko wouldn’t be romantically compatible together because they’d only bring out the worst in each other” because... they don’t. They actually bring out the best in each other. Katara doesn’t have to mother Zuko since he’s on the same level of maturity as her and Zuko didn’t judge Katara when she was at her most emotionally raw. How is that, in any way, shape, or form, unhealthy?

THEY SAID WHAT THEY SAID GUYS

and it’s so true too. Katara and Zuko literally acted like The Parents of the gaang bc they were both parentalized children and the instant we see Zuko start sharing in the “parent” role we see Katara LIGHTEN UP! The second she trusts him with the “dad” role of the group we see her surfing with her waterbending, laughing, teasing Zuko about his “baby pictures” (which is a Married Move of her but w/e).

Katara pretty much spends 2/3rds of s3 feeling SERIOUS pressure to take care of the group and Zuko goes through the same thing with the stress of seeing his father again. We rarely see Katara joke around in a genuine lighthearted way in season 3 AT ALL, from what I remember, until Zuko stepped in to help her “parent” the gaang.

Did Zuko cause potential anxiety in her for a little bit and perhaps over-aggravate her for a while? Sure. But they worked THROUGH it and came to a place that was 100 times healthier (unlike kata*ng, which is a relationship that repeats the same patterns OVER and OVER and OVER and never really “gets healthier”).

Like the show could have EASILY framed Sokka and Suki as the group parents, but they chose not to. They got to be the adorable doting teenage couple they’ve been needing/wanting to be (and good for them!). Zuko has so much life experience and Katara was already in a parental role with the whole group so the way Zuko naturally stepped up to help guide the group felt NOT ONLY inevitable, but just…absolutely fucking adorable. The way he laid his hand on her shoulder to “let [Aang] go” and process his feelings on his own was such a natural dad move and the way she relaxes and allows him to go after that? Oh no they wouldn’t raise children together well AT ALL they’d just fight over everything 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

The HARD FACTS ARE that the second after Katara forgives Zuko we see a genuine improvement in her mental health. He gives her space to be human and overreact to shit and make snide comments and act a little childish for a while until the VERY SECOND THEY WORKED THINGS OUT and suddenly there was just no NEED for her to act out. He gave her an environment to express herself and act like herself and process her emotions the way she wanted to. Ever since they work things out they have plenty of disagreements that don’t lead to outright awfulness from either of them. We see them hash out the conflict of Aang leaving with level heads and to the best of their own abilities (and without either of them losing their cool bc now that they’re friends they actually CALM EACH OTHER DOWN).

But no. Super unhealthy relationship. Definitely weren’t written in the stars to be a couple and ignored by their own writers.

I love women who are unabashedly big.

Women with big laughs, big smiles, big voices, big bodies, and even bigger personalities to match. Women that don’t care if they take up space with long strides and sit with their legs miles apart.

They give big hugs and big kisses, and they have big hearts. Big, proud women are amazing.

I have always been partial to stories which feature the removal of many layers of clothing as an important plot element. One of my favorite Scandinavian folktales is about a queen who, through some magical conception mishap, gives birth to twins. The younger twin is beautiful and normal in every way, but the older twin is just. Y’know. A big horrible snake with arms.

When the younger twin grows up and wants to get married, the lindworm returns and insists that he, as the elder prince, must be married first. When a massive horrible snake with arms lays down the law like that there isn’t really any room for disagreement, but it turns out to be awfully hard to find a bride willing to marry him. The king and queen search far and wide for a woman who will take a husband who is 50 feet long, doesn’t have legs, and may or may not eat his would-be wives when they are appalled by him, but eventually they find a local shepherd’s daughter who is either coerced, a monsterfucker, or just very open-minded and agrees to marry the lindworm.

Depending on the version, the bride either seeks out the advice of a witch or comes up with the idea all by herself, and goes to the bedchamber on her wedding night dressed in many layers of dresses. Her big horrible snake with arms husband is waiting for her and bids her to disrobe, but she asks him to shed a skin as well. Her sexy Russian nesting doll cosplay has so many layers that by the time she is naked, he has shed all of his skins and is 1.) either a sexy naked human dude underneath or 2.) is this meaty blob of helpless worm meat that must be whipped and bathed in chemicals before he transforms into a sexy naked human dude. Either way, they presumably live happily ever after and the younger prince can finally get married.

I’d like to know how the elder prince adjusted to having a human body. He was born a lindworm and lived his entire life slithering around—he’s never worn pants! He’s never had to sit on a toilet! What’s he gonna do now that he’s a sexy 20-something heir to the throne? Is it a shock for him when he looks down and he’s just got one sexual organ? His butt is in the back now, he’s got to shave, he’s got to eat with a fork and a knife and chew his food instead of unhinging his jaw and swallowing it whole.... is it weird for him? Is his honeymoon spent learning to walk on two legs? Is his instinct to crawl out of bed and drag himself across the floor by his arms? Does he roll onto his back and play dead when he gets scared? Does he wrap his torso around his lunch and attempt to constrict it? Is his wife... into this?

Holidaaaaaayyyys so ofc the first thing I did was finally FINALLY rewatch episode 2

So basically my thoughts through the entire episode were
