my very official httyd live action review (spoilers)

my qualifications are i fucking love the original movies and have consumed all available movies and tv shows possible

in short, i was very pleasantly surprised by this movie. it was fucking awesome. in the wake of the absolute shitshow that was the lilo and stitch live action, my expectations were aggressively low, but i was blown away.

i thought mason thames did an INCREDIBLE job portraying hiccup. he really captured the nerdy loser boy vibes that we all love. my only complaint about his performance was the loss of hiccup's canadian accent.

i was initially skeptical about nico parker as asterid, but i was once again pleasantly surprised. she brought a depth to the character that we haven't really seen before. i thought she did very well.

as for the others, i absolutely loved snoutlouts casting, he was so fucking funny, and his relationship with his father added another layer to his character that i really appreciated. I also really liked fishlegs, he really captured the nerdy vibes, and i really enjoyed his performance. The twins were a bit hit and miss for me, i think the casting director is just terrified of blondes because why were they ginger?? i feel like a lot of their character was lost in this film. Gerald Butler did fucking incredible, but we all knew he would. my only complaint about gobber was his accent. why did he have a cockney accent? what the fuck was that about?? in any case, i had relatively few complaints about the cast.

i loved how reptillian the dragons looked, the detail of toothless' closing his third eyelid was a little thing that just added a layer of realism to it.

Also the change of dragon nip to all dragons just being allergic to dandelions was something? idk what but it was something.

anyway all in all it was a really good film and i was very pleasantly surprised by it all. also i loved gothi. i prolly have more to say but i can't remember any of it rn. five fucking stars.

SOTR SPOILERS

okay so i have been thinking about this for a while, and i haven’t seen anyone else talking about it so I’m just gonna say it. i’ve been thinking about the constellations referenced in the book, how the water dipper is obviously the Big Dipper, and how the hunter is Orion, and then i got to think about the W/M that sid assigned to willamae. i don’t think it’s a stretch to assume that that constellation would be casseopeia, at least that’s the only W constellation i could come up with. and when we look at the mythology behind that one, Cassiopeia is the mother of andromeda, the chained princess. and then after the games we literally see haymitch in a cage, and the rest of his life (until katniss comes along) he is still held in the capitols chains. idk if this makes any sense, I’ve just been thinking about it
