jack has been treated like a dog for as long as he can remember. bet on by snyder’s pals in the refuge fight club, forced to grovel and beg for food in the dark basement of that prison, feeling every kick to his soft belly and chest. he grows up steeped in violence, learns to crave the sultry bloodspurt and carbonated adrenaline, but he also knows his place in the world — snyder has tattooed, beaten it into him with a cattle brand and a rattan cane.
but jack is wild, vicious. he’ll turn on anyone at the drop of a hat, even himself. he can’t trust anyone because the men who are giving him sips of whiskey to dull the fire in his body are also the men who traded cash to see the fight.
jack’s place in society is dog, and he knows he’s a bad one.

from a small town sandy to a spirited young nurse to a beautiful heiress to a notorious fugitive to a beautiful princess to the young widow turned celebrated star. laura osnes truly covers all with such grace. this small town girl from minnesota has truly shocked the whole entire broadway community with her kindness, grace, spectacular voice, and beauty.

I am once again thinking about Alex Christian Snyder and the implications of Snyder being so young. How it makes him so much scarier.
the implication that it isn’t young vs old but progression vs tradition.
charming and handsome and the vagueness of how he holds so much power at such a young age, his hatred and obsession surrounding Jack becoming almost something to Prove himself over.
The delanceys act as foils to the newsies but young Snyder is something else entirely.

Jack: It’s not natural for women to write newspapers.
Katherine: It’s not natural for someone to be as stupid as he is tall, yet there you stand.
someone has to have done this already but here

Here is an archive of all of the New York Sun articles I could find about the strike
I spent a few days compiling as many papers I could find in the Library of Congress that had information on the strike. It is not exhaustive, and I would appreciate any additional articles and information anyone may have!!
