NETFIT NETBALL

Recently, at JIS we were lucky enough to host NETFIT netball and some pro players who ran netball and fitness sessions with us and the rest of Brunei.

Personally, I found it very fun. Doing the excercises put a smile on my face because they made it entertaining. And the drills they ran really gave me inspiration and ideas to run my own drills during training or my netball service.

The Q&A sessions were really insightful because it was really interesting to see how these players got to the level they are at now and thier ups and down.

We were also lucky to watch thier exhibition match against the Royal Bees. It was so amazing to watch the speed and the accuracy of the play.

FOOTBALL FUNDAY (6th October 2019)

Today, my friends and I participated in Football Funday. An anual event held by JIS promoting fun and football as you can play from the ages of 6-19. I’ve been playing in football funday since I can remember and this one I definitely won’t forget.

Unfortunately, it is rainy season in Brunei and so the pitch we play on every year was destroyed and so we coudlnt play there. I was extremely disappointed as football funday is an event that I look forward to every year and this year we had to play indoors.

We won tho! Only playing 3 games our first we won by 3-0, we drew our second and won our last 6-0! Our team was called ABCDE FC and I definitely think we should have won the best team name award too!

U19 ZONE NETBALL

Today, my netball team and I travelled to KB (an hour and a half bus ride from school) to play in our semi final netball game. On Tuesday, we made the same journey, playing 2 games and winning both (29-1, and 18-7). We made it to the semi finals which we played Tangung Maya school.

It was a great game and our team dominated for the whole game and won 22-13! It was a tough game and as a GD I struggled to maintain the quality of play that we were playing at. However after 4x 7 minuets quatres we won!

At the awards ceremony we received our meals and trophies but I was surprised to hear that I had won the MVP award for the U19 catagory. It was an excellent day and had great fun.

INTERNATIONAL COSTAL CLEAN UP DAY

Today was international costal clean up day. In Brunei 3 beaches are chosen to be cleaned up and my friends and I participated in the Jerudong Beach clean up.

Despite the haze (burning of the rainforst in Kalimantan and Malaysia) and the heat we stripped the beach of fishing nets, plastic bottles, tyres, polystyrene etc. This was very emotional for me as i live a 5 minute drive from Jerudong beach and so seeing the effect that humans have on such a beautiful beach was heartbreaking. One fishing net took 15-25 minutes to dig out the sand and pull it out. And there were dozens of nets.

I think the best solution to the never ending pastic pollution in our oceans is education. Without leaning about the effects that one plastic bag has on the environment people will still continue to use it. Plastic is a great material however we’ve turned to abusing it and conciquences are deady.

Event : House frisbee

Today in house frisbee, Sandpiper did amazing! Despite bring extremely hot, we played really well and won all our group stages. Personally, i learnt a lot about the game! It was a great learning experience and great to bond with my other Sandpiper sister!!

We got to the finals despite being so exhausted. But surprisingly we won 4-0!!! I was so proud of myself because i scored a point!! Great day with great people.
