Designed Dorian's "official" look as Archon for my world state. Inspired by the advisor artwork in the DAV artbook and took elements of Radonis' robes as well.

Dorian considered his words when replying. He wouldn’t call Tevinter a magical utopia for a young mage, even if their attitude towards magic was objectively better than much of southern Thedas. He loved his country, but it had its problems. Despite his own personal struggles, he wasn’t blissfully unaware of the privileges he’d known as a result of being born both a mage and into a wealthy family.

There were many who would give a lot to have the opportunities he’d had, and while many might consider his experience with the world ‘sheltered’, he knew how the less fortunate coveted the abilities and things he’d simply been born into.

“No one approves of blood magic publicly,” was how he decided to answer that question. “It’s not something you can simply go around asking to be taught. Blood magic finds people who are desperate, it seldom finds eager scholars whose lives are going well.”

“Necromancy doesn’t hold the same reputation but the south is…more superstitious. That sort of thing tends to happen when your dominate population has never stepped foot in any academic space let alone is literate.” He explained.

“Nevarra’s necromancers are their prized jewels I’ve come to understand, they value them so much that they don’t even allow their Templars to occupy the Grand Necropolis. I studied there for a time when I was young, truthfully it was one of the few places my hobby for polishing the bones of dead animals or storing their corpses in jars wasn’t indicative that I might grow up to become a notorious murderer that stalked women in the night and brutally mutilated them.

“But anyways, yes. You most likely won’t learn necromancy anywhere but Nevarra if it’s a study you want to explore academically. Most of Thedas is unnerved by the dead. Death and decay is simply the paramour of the Pavus house. It would not surprise me to learn that some of my distant ancestors were Nevarra themselves.”

He considered the child’s response. He wasn’t sure what exactly fell into things Morrigan could not teach her son. The woman seemed…well informed, and even that felt like an understatement.

In Tevinter, magic is a gift, and it’s cared for and tended to like one. Magic is in itself such a privilege even that Soporati wait and pray for the day one of their children or their grandchildren might be born a mage. There is pride in being a mage. The Southern Chantry treats magic like a threat to the safety of the mage and of others. Young mages are taught to be afraid of their own abilities and accept being considered something of a freak that must be locked away from the rest of the world like criminals. It’s not wonder the South sees so many more possessions and deaths amongst their circles, demons feed off of that fear and self hatred.” Perhaps he ought to get off his soap box; he was still after all speaking to a child who had no control over this situation, he simply asked a question.

“I’ve been to many circles during my studies,” conveniently he’d left out why or how that was. “I’ve been the Necropolis in Nevarra to learn necromancy from an exceptionally bright scholar.” One he would conveniently also leave out their not getting on very well because of Dorian’s famous attitude.

“I guess the short answer is I know a lot of magic. I can’t heal though, something about the process I always somehow make it worse.”

Maybe that was a bit too vivid a description for a child. He supposed he didn't know to have an appropriate conversation about violence and death with a child, he hadn't interacted with a child since he was a child himself and he was a renowned arrogant freak with no friends.

"Anyways," he added, quick to change the topic. "I could teach you a lot of things. Magic is a pretty broad topic, it depends what it is you want to know."

Dorian was sat amongst a rather intimidating stack of books when he heard a child's voice cut through the silence of the library. He glanced up just barely from the notes he was taking (or possibly composing a grievance regarding the information he was not finding within the stack beside him), grey eyes fixed on the boy standing at the opposite side of the table.

Morrigan's son it looked like if his memory was not failing him (and not that there were all that many children wandering the castle in the first place).

"Somewhat I suppose," he answered. "I hope the future I saw was not ours, I'd much prefer to call it all a bad dream." he explained. "But yes, getting thrown through time and surviving to tell the tale? I think I could claim that feat. If anyone asks it was very intentional and not at all a big confusing accident. Magical anomalies aren't nearly as impressive when they're accidents."
