If you want a YA book with a group of fae misfits finding out who's behind human disappearances and lots of nerdy references, give this trilogy a chance.

While some of this is the average YA (young, no magic girl turns hero with a band of misfits) novel, I enjoyed the journey and all of the characters. The nerdy references woven into the story was a lovely Easter egg hunt. Even with this being a fairy, goblin, human world, I like that the characters aren't all white and straight. Most are queer in one way or another and it's refreshing. I will say, I loved the slow burn between Arlo and Nauc.

Update: (5/11/24) book 2 is also great! I can’t wait for book 3.

Shuttleworth really delivered the soulmate trope at its top tier in A Grim and Sunken Vow. Every scene with them had me emotional. 10/10 would read again.

My predictions for A Wild and Ruined Song (AGASV SPOLIERS!!)

No one asked but here is an incomplete list of what I think will happen.

So, since Arlo traded her role as the Hollow Star for Vehans role of Ruin, Vehan will be the Hollow Star, but it won't look the same way as it did for Arlo.

Arlo is going to get a lot of badass revenge (duh).

Celadons going to go on a whole thing if recruiting other courts and people into his new and improved system.

The majority of Vehan and Aurelian chapters they will be together (and they deserve it)

Theo will end up getting the leader of the seelie, and Aurelian will get the Wild but with Vehan helping him as Vehan has far more diplomatic sense.

Lethe will be more comfortable around everyone (yay)

Nausicaa is going to be pissed at Celadon and Lethe.

Nausicaa will get her heart back (and be even more pissed)
