I wrote this for me, because it wouldn't get out of my head. I'm sharing it with you because it's fun and I want to fangirl about it with someone who's read it.

This shouldn't be that difficult to understand. Every book will appeal to different people. But if you never write the book and share it, you will never get to look back on it and say "I wrote that."

Every book is a learning process. With each one you write, you get better. Even if the only person who reads it is you, you did that. Be proud of yourself. Not everyone makes it even that far.

You should write the most niche, indulgent fiction that appeals to you specifically, because it will be much more artistically authentic and valuable than corporate slop that has been focus tested to death to appeal to the widest audience possible.

Write for yourself and you will always be making authentic art that has an uncompromised vision, and you will gain an audience that appreciates that.

i like the feeling of when the inspiration to write starts coming back again. slowly, sometimes excruciatingly so, but it’s coming back.

I recently had someone beta a short fic for me (still working on it, will be posted later!) and they pointed out how I switch between past tense and present tense a lot in my fics. It’s not like I don’t notice it either but it did make me wonder why; cause I definitely prefer to write in present tense but I always start in past tense.

And I think I figured out why; when I think of a fic and start the story in my mind, it may be a few days before that story goes onto paper/word doc. So, to me, the story starts in past tense because in my head we’ve already been there in that scene in the “past” and then any scenes I continue to write are happening in “real time”, if that makes sense.

I don’t know, it was just interesting to think about.
