I went looking for the source of this, and it's supposedly from "Letters to Milena." I couldn't find anything that could even be a differing translation of the same phrase, and I also couldn't find any mention of the quote older than about 7 months (although that was, itself, a screenshot, so the actual origin is likely older.) The AI search assistant is citing the may websites that have repeated this supposed quote as if they're authoritative. People misquoting a vaguely remembered book has likely been a problem as long as books have existed, but In this age of AI hallucinations, it's more important than ever to check primary sources.

"i asked ai to generate this meal plan". its causing water shortages where its data centers are built. "ill generate some pictures for the dnd campaign". its spreading misinformation. "meta, generate an image of this guy doing something stupid". its trained off stolen images, writing, video, audio. "i was talking with my snapchat ai-" theres no way to verify what its doing with the information it collects.
