AU idea where Bill basically erases Ford’s memory of their meeting & possesses a vacant human to pose as a researcher who broke down along the road near Ford’s property. He then pretends to stumble upon blueprints of the portal & feigns interest in them, telling Ford he’d be willing to help him out with it for his own research. Ford remembers the portal and making it, but can’t recall why he had to stop. Frustrated, Ford hopes that going along with this supposed researcher will help jog his memories, suspecting Fiddleford had used the memory gun on him to forget.

It’s basically just Bill struggling with learning to pretend to be human and noticing way more of Ford’s life that he had neglected to care about. Stan does end up showing up after Bill & is immediately suspicious of him, having to keep up the “inspired researcher” act and slow down work on the portal.

Ford does regain his memories eventually after too much Deja vú and his journal’s recordings of a demon with a similar demeanor. He then has to pretend he doesn’t remember as he devises a plan to delay the portal inevitably and get rid of him.
