typography and thumbnail workshops !!

here’s my parts in the two workshops that we did !

i personally preferred the thumbnailing workshop since it’s something i can,, actually put to use in my final and it really helps with the planning process !!

i didn’t really love the type workshop simply because i just,, do not enjoy typographical based projects in the slightest :’)

i much much prefer the illustrative approach to things :)

thus is my personal favourite of all the projects

i love character design to death and i really got to throw that love into this project, as well as my odd connection to the verse of emotional wounds and forms of trauma that i put into these characters !! :)

plus i got to try out some landscape/settings drawing to establish a small part of this universe for one of the characters (vel’s library !)

i really liked the aspect of really fleshing out these characters and building them up from practically nothing, and id really love to carry them forward into the final !!

typographical stuff !!

the song i chose to make into a cool poster was ‘the spider and the kitsune-like lion’ by cristianmirror (sang by the vocaloid hatsune miku) :)

i think it turned out pretty cool !!

i was planning to add illustration to it at some point just to fill the gaps, but it looks really nice regardless methinks

devonshire arcade !!

these are my initial pole designs for the devonshire arcade brief !! i wanted to stick with the gothic victorian theme of the place so,,, why not make it funky n stuff at the same time ?

i surprisingly enjoyed this project ! i liked the fact that we could just be wild with our ideas and they’d still be considered in some way, case in point; the pillar in a dress :’)

i just loved including my love of gothic design into my work, any way to put the things i like into my work :)

penguins !!

this is all stuff for the penguins project !!

an early design project that just ended up a bit odd

because of course it did

i really enjoyed the aspect of this project that allowed us to take book covers and redesign them ! i got to incorporate my love of poetry into it by focusing on redesigning the covers of poetry books that were in the penguin domain :)

what if i had more time

ill be honest

throughout this project i found myself asking ‘why didn’t i get more time ?’

6 weeks flies in fast, especially when there’s a lot of induction based activity happening at the same time

so,,, you can imagine i wasn’t getting the best progress in this project

too much to do, too little time

ya know ?

but i got some stuff done ! that’s the big thing here :)

and thats all evident on this little page, just a scroll away

now if i did in fact have more time, i would’ve had a lot more designs to show off, a much busier sketchbook, a lot more to say

but i got caught up, i lost my time, i lost my motivation

time limits aren’t always my best friend, i’ve known that for years at this point

but !! i’m a capable guy, i can learn to adapt and improve my work load to fit my own limits and the time frame the projects are set in (as long as they’re not broken up by,, workshops and meetings and sickness and whatever else the human condition throws at me)

i definitely know what i’m capable of, and i know its a lot more than what you see on here

i know that and i understand that

and i can confidently say that with a little more time i could’ve had more of a product to show rather than a mish mash of designs and words :’)

but hey we live and we learn :)

graphic novels/novels that roughly inspired things

there’s two big novels that had a lot of influence on this project, as well as the audio content that everything is derived from

the two novels you ask ?

glad you asked !

so, one of the two is;

‘demon in the wood’ by leigh bardugo and dani pendergast

why the inspiration ? well, it’s a graphic novel ! and character design is one of the focal points of this project :)

i’m a big fan of the artstyle in this novel, its a lot like the style i enjoy drawing in i’ve found !

and the second novel is;

‘grandmaster of demonic cultivation’ by mo xiang tong xiu

now this isn’t a graphic novel, but its still a great series ! plus the cover art is just,, really pretty :’)

i’ve always been a fan of the creators covers, honestly

they’re always really clean and pretty !!

these two things are my primary inspirations in terms of readables

my big BIG inspiration is clear here, it’s redacted audio (considering i’ve,, ripped his characters and universe and designed it all myself as a character from said universe)

but hey inspiration is fun !

deep dive; vincent solaire

welcome back to deep dive

the thing where i say a lot and you retain some of it (hopefully)

this time, we’re going over vincent solaire !

the progeny of william solaire, the head of the solaire clan

have i said solaire enough yet ?

so, vincent solaire

vampire who belongs to williams clan

hes the progeny of william, he was turned by him after an incident at the theme park ‘wonderworld’

the incident took place on february 13th, 2000 and caused his death as well as his turning to relive as a vampire in

also here’s my vincent design, just for fun

fun fact ! in the imperium (possibly prime universe too, idk) vincent and adam (another vampire, he is now dead in both the imperium and the prime universe) had some form of relationship ! this is mostly made apparent in (i believe, i could be wrong) the ‘sadistic and flirty vampire fight over you’ video from last years instalment of the imperium !

that video has since been removed from youtube due to policy violations

deep dive; sam collins

welcome back to deep dive

where i say too many things about too many things and you think it’s kinda cool

this time, we’re goin over sam collins !

one of the vamps in the redactedverse :)

(also one of my personal favourites)

so, sam collins

ex-freelancer turned vampire (with a strange affinity for healing magic)

sam is the speaker partner for tank !

their nickname is darlin’

because,, he’s southern

southern comfort, now featuring fangs

sam died in 2008, the exact date (as far as i know) is unknown as well as the place in which he died

he was turned by alexis solaire, a member of the solaire clan who was turned by old blood

they were friends with benefits of sorts !

also, since we’re on the topic

deep dive; david shaw

so, just to seal my “i know too much about things” card once and for all

here’s a big ol’ deep dive/lore dump for david !

may help with learning about the whole universe :)

so, david shaw

the son of gabriel ‘gabe’ shaw, the ex-alpha of the shaw pack

why ex ? well, gabe passed away in a drunk drive accident about 5 years ago

he was hit by some drunk asshole on the highway

once gabe had passed, david was almost immediately put into the position of alpha

practically giving him zero time to properly grieve his father

he also lost his mother at an incredibly young age, around the ages of 2-4

so, who could he turn to ? who did he rely on ?

well,, nobody, in all honesty

he packed away any sentiment, softness, emotion, anything that wasn’t deemed ‘powerful’ in the role of alpha

he did have asher by his side, ever since childhood they’d been stuck by one another whenever they needed it

(fun fact ! in the imperium, before his death, david was asher’s mate ! meaning they had some form of close relationship with one another !)

now, don’t get me wrong, david was (and still is) heavily respected as the alpha

he’s had a lot of development over the years, and that was definitely aided by his partner

angel .

angel is david’s canon partner, his listener

to translate, when listening to david’s content

you are angel

you are the listener, and angel is the stand-in nickname for you as the listener

and it’s entirely gender-neutral (same goes for every character in the verse ! like milo and sweetheart, sam and darlin, vincent and lovely, etc)

because i love making powerpoints about pointless things

the evidence of outcome

i get it

you gotta know i’ve done stuff to prove i’m a capable boy

well you’re in luck because i’ve got the checklist, the words and the evidence all over the place !

so, let’s begin

1. a comprehensive mind map/tangible evidence that you’ve explored a range of ideas connected with your subject

here’s that mind map for ya !

very messy, very ‘clay brain’ at its finest, very organic if you will

2. drawings and designs of what ‘home’ could look like, from life and also imaginary

i’m too fond of imaginary things, so this is very imagination heavy

but there’s always room for life (i guess)

also in this project, people count as home ! home isn’t a place to most, it’s a feeling :)

so, there’s some people here as well as some silly little drawings from my silly little head

3. research of others/artists who have made work connected to your subject

i whipped up a handy dandy little booklet of my 4 artists of choice ! very brief annotations, mostly just me gushing over how pretty their stuff is

4. explore your ideas in workshops

5. present finished outcomes appropriately

well,,, there’s a whole notebook plus this blog to show off all my nifty stuff :)

6. work on the project at home

so there’s all my criteria ! i guess !

very loose but,, it’s there ! mediocre to some, but it’s there nonetheless :)
