Best ted talk ever
I was really intrigued by your post/tags about Jiu and her leadership, especially since I'm new to K-pop and trying to understand the leader concept (and how DC stands out? If they do) - but only if you don't mind! Is there an article/vid I can search for where she mentions sharing burdens with Sua? Would you have any examples of group's respect for her role?
sorry it’s been a while since you sent this but I didn’t have the brain cells to reply to it but I’ll do my best now to give it a worthy reply - so, essay time
Jiu is an amazing leader for a lot of reasons, but I think the reason that stands out the most to me is that you can see very CLEARLY that she genuinely strives for the other members (and the people around her) to be successful and happy. there’s been a lot of instances where Jiu just purposely loses games against the other members just so they can have that instant gratification - it’s not bluntly obvious, but if you pay attention to her and her actions it is (e.g. one of the stasia interviews, I can’t remember which one); also, often for guess the song games and things of that sort where they are given a punishment if they lose, handong is the member who loses those games the most often because of the language barrier, and there’s been more that one instance where Jiu has purposely lost so she’d take the punishment instead of handong (the interview where I can remember this most clearly got deleted :( it was on 10jam, I don’t think anyone saved it I’ve tried to look for it). besides this, you often see her give her turn to the other members to speak when she notices they haven’t spoken for a while, and in vlives she’ll often ask questions to handong/gahyeon/dami if she notices they haven’t been speaking a lot (sua does the same so it’s not something just exclusive to jiu but it’s still really heartwarming to see her have that in consideration)
but to be fair, Jiu gets to shine so well as a leader because the rest of the members really respect and care for her and each other a Lot. but it’s without a doubt that Jiu is a really positive and strong force of DC. the other members have mentioned this in multiple occasions over the years and have been apologetic to the burdens she must feel because of her role

I still think this moment represents Jiu’s role in the group the best
at the end of the day DC have such an amazing team work is because they work to keep a healthy relationship with each other. they never involve the other members when they have an argument, and they only involve Jiu (or Sua) when they’re having issues settling things
source
you can tell they’re really close right now from the fact that they aren’t afraid to open up about the fact that they once weren’t
source
I know Siyeon and Handong opened up about this too during You and I but I can’t remember the exact interview or vlive but as a bonus here’s Siyeon talking about how she held Handong’s hand while they were sleeping together just because
anyway as for how Jiu shares her burdens with Sua, I know she’s mentioned it in a vlive or interview maybe? that because she’s the oldest she doesn’t like to concern the others, but that she does share it with sua since they’re the same age. but in that sense, when the members do notice that she’s not okay, they make sure to take care of her
since minx era that sua and jiu have been labelled as ‘the mom and dad’ of the group, and sua has told her she shouldn’t be hard on herself for her role, and to this day that still applies without a doubt. but really, the reason why DC work so well together, is because they WANT to be together (jiu talks about how the other members don’t make her role difficult here and she recently mentioned it again in this interview) and on happiness train I think this moment really sums up how Jiu is as a person in general, her role as the leader, and how the members respect her
they really support and cheer for each other and they’re always really mindful - obviously they still have their teasing moments where they don’t let each other live but it’s never with anything serious that could potentially hurt each other (there’s too many examples for this it’s literally like just pick any video asdkjh)
even with handong being away right now, it’s obvious their dynamic is different from what it used to be when she was there, it’s not blunt but if you know the members a bit you can tell. so all that being said, jiu is an amazing leader, dc are an amazing group who care for each more than anything, and we need ot7 back together. thank you for coming to my ted talk
