More art of Unmute and her crew of baddies: Ego Trip and Fractal.
I don't know why I love C-tier villains so much, but there's something about super petty motivations and low-rent aspirations in baddies that I can't get enough of.
Are these three going to try to kidnap world leaders? Threaten the world? No.
Will they do wild crimes to get Becky views on Youtube? Yes. XD

New art for April as we dive into making art for Concord's SOTM deck. This one is the art for Astral Aegis and includes cameos from two other cosmic heroes: Atom Lass (from the Rough Riders SOTM mod) and Spaceflame! (made by YakGuardian).

You know, occasionally you just feel like drawing a spicy picture of a cyborg lady.
This is Unmute from my Menagerie of the Multiverse villain decks doing what's she's best at: posting stuff online in order to get attention. Probably went on her Instagram in a post like "just got out of prison and SO GLAD to have gotten out of that ugly uniform."
Also probably the only person I could draw like this in good conscious from the Menagerie-verse. This one works because it's completely in character for Becky and I can't think of many other characters it would be for. Maybe some of the other adult supporting cast will spring to mind, but unlikely.

For what feels like the first time, I have enough art from throughout the year to do one of those "one finished piece from each month" deals. Fun stuff!
Details below the cut.
January was some concept art for @astralfrontier ongoing Phase 3 Menagerie continuation stories. This is a very fun character named <deep breath> The Most Illustrious Supernova of the Universe, the Legendary Navigator of the Space-ways, the Right Honorable Quinnar Gentry who is a joy anytime they show up. Very much a foil for Concord, but also a (sometimes) ally.
February is more Phase Three art, this time of the Hand, a stage magician-themed villain who is a part of the Seven Wonders, a world threatening group. I really wanted to give her a look where, if I was to include them in any Sentinels of the Multiverse cards, she wouldn't be confused with any of the four-to-six other stage magician themed characters in the custom community's many decks. Not sure what the appeal is of the stage magician-themed super. I'm sure it's Zatanna's fault.
March is a bit of fun with @solkaras's Valerie and that skimpy meme dress that was floating around at the beginning of the year.
April is the first of several entries' here from my friend Bobbert's HMCS Moondancer environment deck, this one featuring cameo's from my other friend Mist's tokusatsu-inspired characters Alius and Ampere (whom I've also done art for). There's going to be several of these, so I'm going to spread my thoughts out, but for this one I will say that I always love doing cameos and I'm happy Bobbert let me go a bit wild with them in this deck's artwork.
May is when I started gearing up for ArtFight, including drawing new references. I feel like I've always struggled with drawing Niko in a way that I like (I'm not the best artist when it comes to animals) but this year I feel like I definitely made some strides forward in that department.
June is more Moondancer art, this time featuring Clara Cloverfield, whom I did the character design for (and might do some additional art for in the future, we'll see). This was one of the cameos that Bobbert insisted on, so I had some fun exploring the character and figuring out the best way to depict her undercover at the casino.
July a cameo from a pair of the Menagerie kids: Jason Quill and Alycia Chin, with Jason cheating at craps. I struggled a bit to figure out which of the Menagerie crew to cameo (it would have been fun to dress any of them up in fancy clothes) but the obvious conclusion was Jason and Alycia. Their leaning into spy tropes and their history with shady organizations made them a perfect fit for the Moondancer's themes.
August moves us on to the Moondancer's lounge singer, Frankie Bongiovi. They were a fun character to design with Bobbert giving me a bunch of inspirations for the character to draw off of. I also got to try out some new techniques (particularly with Tucker in the background there) that I think worked out well.
September gives us the final piece of Moondancer art, as the deck was released the following month in October. While I had a lot of struggles working on the art for Moondancer (it was the first project I've done at this scale for someone else) by the end I feel like I finally got to a good place working on other peoples' projects and I'm thankful to Bobbert for giving me the opportunity. It really helped me grow as an artist.
October saw me dive back into my comfort zone with this group shot of the Menagerie kids. I've got some big projects in mind for these kids coming up, which I hope to have started before the mid-year.
November was a bit of a cheat. I was running a Sentinel Comics RPG game during this time and spent a lot of time working on that game, so November we have artwork of Fractal from that game. This ended up being a token for her character when she showed up in the final fight the adventure (as a hostage, not a villain). As winter starts to rear its head, my drive to create tends to dwindle.
Finally December brings us a sketch of Ashley and @solkaras' Valerie again, playing off some silly BS we were talking about on Discord during the Christmas-to-New Years period. Given that this was done on 12/29 and I really didn't have anything else to show for December, I really squeaked this one in at the last minute. XD
Anyway, happy New Years. Let's all hope it's not utter dog shit.

Working on a project and this is going to be the cover art. It's been a while since I've drawn all the kids together and they've certainly changed in six years.
As a reminder, they are: (front to back, left to right) Ghost Girl/Charlotte Palmer, Mercury/Harry Gale, Jason Quill, Concord/Adam Amari, Pneuma/Aria Newman, Link/Leo Snow, and Otto Newman (back).
For people who like to see before and after shots, I have the original sketch under the cut.
Yep, this is how most of them start out. XD
Biggest changes were rearranging the placement of all the characters (based on feedback from @astralfrontier, which I think made the flow of the picture better) and making Otto's "pose" in the back a bit more dynamic (based on feedback from another one of my friends).

Remember how I said I wanted to take a break from SotM-related art decks for a while after finishing Mercury's deck? I lied.

My friend Bobbert needed artwork for his latest environment deck the HMCS Moondancer and, without his normal artist collaborator available, I stepped in to help out. Bobbert gave me pretty much free rein with a lot of the cameos, so I fit in a bunch of my favorites from the Custom SotM community (as well as some the Menagerie characters like Jason Quill, Charade, and Space Bug!).
With this done, maybe I'll take an actual break of SotM-related art... but I doubt it.

Got my rewards from @swegener's Cult of the Morach Kickstarter and guess what was inside!

AAAAAAAAAA!
This is probably the coolest Ash has ever looked, Niko looks like he's having the time of his life, and I love it. I've been a fan of Scott's art for years (I gush about Atomic Robo all the time and hope to eventually gush about Last Sentinel with equal fervor) but there's something about getting to see one of your characters drawn by one of your favorite artists.

A year on from asking this question, I'm snickering a bit at the irony of the answer now that I've backed Moz's Kickstarter for a physical copy of Nix of Nothing.
If you having read Nix yet, go read it on its site. It's good. And if you like it, maybe hit up that Kickstarter. Or don't. I'm not your dad.
Question about your 15 Pages or Less post. Are there any special considerations you're making with an eye towards an eventual print or other compilation version? With each chapter being an inconsistent number of pages would add some sort of filter to make sure the chapters each start on same page face, or have you planned around that from chapter to chapter to know where you page turns would be? Thanks for taking the time to read and answer these, I love digging into artist's processes.
I used to wonder if I should worry about all that, but the rarity with which I can actually get something in print means for me it's just a lot of unneeded stress.

Tomorrow...
Artfight time is right around the corner again. While it would have been much more in character for me to join Team Stardust (space!) I think that's also true of most of the folks I'm going to target this year, so might as well be efficient and earn those points.
Goals for this year:
Do more than one attack before everything goes to shit.
Goals for next year:
Have more than one character.

Mercury is live on my Sentinels of the Multiverse Steam mod. Released along side fellow speedster Skimmer on @spooky-ghostwriter's mod, Mercury's been getting a lot of positive feedback, which I really appreciate.
More so than a lot of the other heroes I've made, it was really important to me that Mercury felt right. He's hero sure, but he's also a protector, a public figure, and an anxious super sonic Zoomer. And from the sound of things, I succeeded.
There are definitely at least a couple more SOTM decks in the chamber, but I'm still deciding where I want to focus my attention over the next couple months. Got a couple non-Sentinels projects I'd love to do, but what I do next is still up in the air.

With Art Fight right around the corner, it's time to work on updating Ashley's reference sheets. I think this is some good key art for him, showing his natural state of being slightly annoyed which is offset by Niko being adorable.

my theory is that boops are so great because they are fullfilling two very deep-seated desire of tumblr users: 1. being able to interact with your mutuals without actually having to talk to each other and 2. being very annoying

Very much love Ironsworn and its two sister games, Starforged (Ironsworn in Space) and the-soon-to-be-released-if-it-isn't-already Sundered Isles (Starforged but on the high seas and a fantasy age of pirates).
But if there's a solo game that ticks all the boxes for me, it's Apothecaria by Blackwell Games. A journaling game where you take on the role of the town witch (and in other expansions, a crafter) brewing potions to heal the afflictions of your fellow townsfolk, travelers, and the local wildlife.
Reason why you should play solo games :
You can play without having to find a day when all the group can be here.
