I would like to present some propaganda for the "king of beasts" chimera. During this tournament, I have seen people mention iconic Heinkel scenes like the one with the finger guns and the one with Kimblee. Although maybe I just missed it, I haven't seen anyone mention that time when our beloved protagonist was impaled in the mine shaft, and Heinkel pulled the metal bar out of said protagonist, carried him, and helped him recover. If not for Heinkel (and Darius), Ed probably wouldn't have survived, and Al possibly wouldn't have survived either.

Honestly, they really wouldn’t have survived without him! 🦁

Heinkel really does need more recognition, and there’s still time for him to grab first place so….

Having read and appreciated your latest FMA fic on team greed, what are you thoughts on Heinkel and Darius as characters? And not saying this is up your alley, but how would you feel on them as a couple post-canon or during the later events?

I love them! I think the appeal of Team Greed fics is exploring these four (five?) getting used to each other, because we see them when they first start working together and then skip ahead several months and the dynamic shifts somewhat! I like that at first, they're like "this Ed kid is fucking annoying but at least he isn't Kimblee and I guess he saved our lives so we owe him" and then by the end, they seem to genuinely get along as a team! they might bug each other (like Darius and Heinkel getting on Ed's case about being rude to his dad) but they check in on each other during fights and I think Ed has grown on them by that point lol he does that. he's like a moss.

also one of my favorite scenes is their first fight with Ed because the dynamite thing gets me so bad. I love that they know the ingredients to dynamite. they could've just been meathead hired muscle kind of guys, but instead they follow along Ed's chemistry quiz until they realize what he's about to do to them lmao

I also really enjoy that the two pairs of chimeras introduced in the north have different perspectives on being chimeras, and neither perspective is presented as better or worse than the other! Zampano and Jerso really want to get their human bodies back, so they work with Al towards that goal (I love them debating alchemy theory in the manga, they're the best), meanwhile Darius and Heinkel are like "nah our chimera bodies are pretty cool actually, we wanna stay like this" and that's treated as just as valid. actually, as I type this, I'm realizing that makes them kinda reflect their respective Elric brothers -- Al desperately wants his human body back, while Ed is less concerned with his own missing limbs and is more practical about it, and neither perspective is better or worse, it just depends on their circumstances

also I am a big fan of Darius and Heinkel being a couple :] middle-aged bear4bear rights

Headcanons that are meaningless to everyone but me (or extremely niche inside jokes formed by my friend group)

Hawkeye finds pleasantries, mostly "hello"s and "goodbye"s, pointless and kind of annoying. She'll sometimes engage in them in person but never over the phone. She often hangs up while the other person is mid "bye".

Havoc's "tried and true" opener on dates is that he prefers rainy weather because he, quote, "loves to curl up by the window with a good book and some tea". This is not only a bold-faced lie, but it hasn't helped him get past the first date so it's not any more effective than his other lines.

Fuery pulls more women than Havoc does (not that there was any competition lmao) but he is somehow unaware of this.

Mustang's singular hobby that he does purely for fun is building model ships. His only social interaction is with his coworkers because he does not have any other friends.

Ed thinks Winry is cooped up in her shop all day and all night but that's literally only when he shows up because he DOES IT UNANNOUNCED!! Winry has a thriving social life both in Resembool and Rush Valley. She knows every single person in Resembool and keeps tabs on the neighbors. She's invited to dinners and group outings all the time. People mourned when she moved to RV. Within a month of working at Garfiel's, she'd already met most of the people on the street and she remembers most of their names.

Because of her interests, it's often assumed that Winry is a "not like other girls" type but she is the exact opposite. If you say a single misogynistic thing about other girls' interests (like astrology or pop music) on a first date she is getting up and leaving.

Ling is hypermobile and can bend his hands like this️ ⬇️ as well as do things like back bends and pulling his shoulders out of their sockets. When he was younger he would go up to literally anyone (family members, visiting officials, perfect strangers) and ask if they wanted to see him pull his shoulder out and then not wait for an answer.

Ling's favorite fruit is mango. When he was seven he refused to eat anything but that and had so many that he threw up at a family function. (Mangos were ruined for him for two years.)

Lan Fan does not get sick often but when she does It's Bad and she's taken out for a week or more. When she was younger and delirious with fever, she started distressedly mumbling that she was turning into a cookie. Nothing would convince her otherwise (Fu tried everything). In the end, they had to get Ling to help and he calmed her down in seconds by saying "there are no crumbs so I think you're probably okay".

This is a small one: Lan Fan is on the ace spectrum.

When Mei cooks for other people she makes it as cute as humanly possible. Everything that can have a smiley face or heart on it will. Side note, Al and Mei are 100% a couple that cooks together.

Mei is a little bit fujopilled. You understand.

While he seems shady as hell, Greed's rap sheet is actually pathetically small. The worst crime he's ever committed is, of course, the single instance of kidnapping that we saw on screen.

Greed doesn't understand electricity. He thinks it's powered by electric eels ("eelectricity") and has numerous drawings in his diaries theorizing on the mechanics of these machines. Ex: A generator that has an eel tank with a water wheel inside of it. The drawing is accented with large arrows and question marks and "HOW DOES IT WORK"s. That being said! He's not stupid in all academics. Give this guy some numbers and put it in a financial context and he can calculate anything.

Greed likes the "finer things" but he also has bad taste and sometimes these clash horribly. Is the furniture in his home expensive? Yes. Does any of it match in any conceivable way? Fuck no. Also that nice walnut hutch that cost 1.5K is used solely to display his novelty bong collection.

Heinkel and Darius only became close and discovered the other was gay because of the Camping Trip. So,

List of Small Things™ I enjoy about Fullmetal Alchemist in no particular order

Everyone in FMAB/manga is just Some Guy™ and very human and I love that so here goes:

Falman getting stuck with a serial-killing suit of armor in his appartment for days and his reaction to it. It may have been weeks. He's been on sick leave the entire time. He's a guy in his early thirties with a flock of early-greying hair because being in a dead-end-role in the military is stressfull, ok. He gets stuck at home with a funny little serial killer (and eventually some foreign body guards, and a foreign prince?? lighting signal fires in his backyard?? like man what a week)

The whole military ambush against the Devil's Nest was yes, kind of kickstarted by the gang kidnapping Al for Greed, but it was mostly kickstarted because Ed was down south to do his yearly official report and Bradley and Armstrong just happened to be present when he was informed Al had gone missing. Greed's entire operation was done in by a teen doing his paperwork

on that note, Greed really decided to spend his immortality wisely by pursuing absolutely none of his supposed ambitions and just decided to settle down with a bunch of buddies. An offshot of the buddies he was initially made to guard, too. I don't think Greed is aware of this either

everyone on that radio building. The radio host 100% down to get some coup-shenanigans into his station to drive engagement. The guys sympathising with Mrs Bradley and taking care of her. Breda taking control of the narrative with a perpetual frown by the skin of his teeth.

I know the story of how the Bradleys met is technically not canon(?) but Mrs Bradley slapping her future husband upon their first meeting because he got his flirting tips from his siblings will never not be funny. Idiots. All of them.

EVERYTHING about Darius and Heinkel. They lost their jobs and became wanted criminals upon helping out some scrawny 15 year old. They have families they miss dearly. They haven't looked back since. "You guys don't HAVE to help me save the world" - "It's not like we have anything better to do"

i was going to say the Ice Cream Truck, because it's iconic, but actually, when told to disguise a vehicle, 15-year-old pinacle of edgelord fashion Edward Elric turned it into a colourful nightmare of spikes that barely resembled a car but might be closely related to the worlds deadliest parade float. None of this was necessary. Ed is just like that.

Hawkeye growing her hair out after meeting Winry, and Winry getting piercings after seeing Hawkeye's

Denny Brosh bursting into tears when he sees Maria Ross is still alive. Dude managed to not quit his job despite working in the same city (department?) where his best friend's killer was his supervisor. They were also very real for showing us that this is a guy who oversleeps and is older brother to at least three younger siblings. There was no need to give us more on Denny Brosh but every little detail hit so hard when they reunited.

okay so remember that time Ed and Ling ate Ed's shoe. Remember that Ed spend some time on a "deserted island" as a kid. Gluttony's stomach had nothing on him. Izumi raised some anime-ass boy-scouts. 100% Farm boy behaviour. These kids are so 15 it makes me want to bite things

immortal, soul-spliced dwarf in a flask got rid of his Sloth and still managed to procrastinate on his world domination plan until the last minute. Most Human disaster.

the entire half-episode they spend on Dr. Knox and his regrets and family. FMA is so good about humanising everyone.

everyone bullied Yoki because he was a small town fraud exploiting workers for his own benefit. Simply a jerk. He also hit Pride with a car in an epic rescue, and cried and screamed the whole way through

that one shot of a kid curiously poking a soldier they found bound on the ground with a stick

(I know it's technically not canon, but-) "I'm trying to save your life, asshole!"

Deadbeat dads society!!

Deadbeat dads society is a hypothetical wip based on a bunch of @magpiedragon's most excellent fma headcanons!

Basically just uh- Greed, Ling, Ed, Darius and Heinkel sitting around a fire and having a slightly fucked up but cathartic conversation about their respective shitty dads x)

Also features Greed "yeah I'm gonna murder my dad" and Ling "Oh psych me too" being like "hey Ed do you need help murdering your dad?" and Ed being equal parts touched and disturbed hahah

(Darius and Heinkel did not murder their respective dads but at least Heinkel has given it some serious consideration. Also, they are watching this conversation between three traumatized teens* and are like "shit I didn't sing up to be a gay uncle but I guess this is my life now")

*Greed would argue that he isn't a teen but lbr he has the emotional maturity of one x)

Anyway this one is still percolating bc I have no idea where to even start with it, but I do think it would make a really fun one-shot

Edward Elric Headcanons (mostly pertaining to Edling)

I feel like Ed would be an unexpectedly good cook. Like although he's never had a lot of down time, he probably learned a few recipes that he will make when Al gets his body back.

So when he became a fugitive and basically had to survive with anything, he used his cooking skills in the woods. Ling can't cook for shit because he was used to being pampered, same thing with Greed. Anytime they were in the woods Ling, if Greed didn't feel like having control, would hover over Ed's shoulder as he cooked because he was just fascinated by this unexpected skill. Darius didn't seem to be the type to cook, but Heinkel and Ed would switch turns cooking. And if they are crashing at a lowkey motel, Ed would ask to use their kitchen and cook with proper utensils. Which Ling would absolutely be hyped about. Greed also liked Ed's cooking, since the home-like taste was similar to his old comrades from the Devil's Nest bar.
