Top 10 (ish) Films of 2024

2024 was a pretty weak year. I don't know, maybe it was a me problem, but there just wasn't a lot of movies that really moved me or stuck to my soul. I would like to formally apologize to 2023 if I talked any shit about you last year. This year I went with the heart a little more than the head.

Honestly, I probably have three films for my #1 pick, they're quite interchangeable with one another. These were quite easily the top three:

If I had to pick a definite number one, gun to my head, it would have to be 'I Saw the TV Glow.' It was a film that shook me to my core, and it hasn't left since. This movie is like nothing I've experience before which is why I would put it above the others. I feel like Jane Schoenbrun could be the next great American auteur. Speaking of which...

Sean Baker's Anora deserves every award and accolade coming its way. After years of awesome work, he has put himself amongst the elite with this.

As far as Dune: Part Two goes, everything has been said that needs to be said, kicks the first movie's ass in every way, Denis was snubbed yet again, 'yada yada yada'

TOP 10ish (obviously way more than 10) Films of 2023

Another year gone, and it's about that time to put it to rest, officially. 2023 was a perfectly fine year in film. Much like last year, not the worst, but also far from the best. I don't know, but the 2020's don't seem to be hitting like the 2010's (especially the last few years) Maybe COVID is to blame, maybe my age, but the decade is still relatively young and there was plenty of solid films this year. I think I need to stop wanting everything in my top 10 to be a 10/10 flawless masterpiece of cinema, because at the end of the day, films are made by humans (for now) and no person or film is perfect. That's why I'm not going to star rate movies as much. It seems more and more superfluous by the year.

Also, supremely disappointed in myself for hardly seeing any documentaries this year. Unforgivable shit from me, I apologize.

My Choice for favorite/best #1 Film of 2023 is obvious and maybe even a little boring, but I don't give a fuck its...
Christopher Nolan's OPPENHEIMER

Listening, you can't deny a GOAT when they are at the peak of their powers, and Nolan, much like he did when I was a teenager, when I saw films like The Dark Knight and Inception reminded me why I love this shit! CINEMA BABY!!!

Top 22 of 2022

Watched more films this year than any other year before. Not sure if I'm proud of that, or ashamed. Got some soul searching to do after this you guys. Anyways, 2022 was similar to 2021, it was fine. Not the best, not the worst, just okay. I don't know, I may just be growing more cynical by the day. Too many movies might do that to you. Also, probably too many movies about making movies on this list. Enough!

My #1 Favorite Film of 2022 was... Jordan Peele's NOPE

Very rarely, if at all does my most anticipated film become my best picture of the year. Out of all the films about filmmaking this year, Nope was by far the most resonant, the most cinematic, and I've had this film on my mind more than any other this year, and it only gets better after multiple viewings.

Top 21 of 2021

It’s that time again! Time to make a list way too late into the year of movies that came out last year. I guess I’m using the Oscars as a deadline, like I do every year.

2021 was a pretty solid year in film, much more exciting than 2020 for obvious reasons. I’m gonna separate my bottom 10 from my top 10, but otherwise this list is in no particular order.
