Team Twenty Two, Game On For A Better Life
Spinal Injury:
Team 22, Robert Rose Foundation is supported by the Collingwood Football Club because of the Rose family. Bob Rose’s (wore No. 22), son Robert, became a quadriplegic at the age of 22. The foundation works to raise awareness for spinal injury across Australia, as well as raising money for those who suffer.
WHEELCHAIR FOOTBALL Victorian Wheelchair Football League. Collingwood VWFL coach Brendan Stroud. Stroud was interviewed about the program which is supported by the Robert Rose Foundation. He spoke about how ‘team twenty two is... the power of 2′, in regards to having ‘someone beside you for mental health’ and similar situations.
This foundation has a massive impact on those that depend on the funds that are raised. Almost 50% of the injured individuals have a mental illness of some sort, along with depression (Stroud, 2019).
The foundation posted a lot on social media, which made it easy for fans of the Collingwood Football Club find the information and learn more about the foundation. This is a new side to football that many are unaware of and I feel as though it should be more well-known and supported.
A few other individuals that got involved were the Western Bulldogs Football and Nathan Buckley. Both the Western Bulldogs and Nathan Buckley have shown that they fully support the foundation, as well as promoting the donations that are needed for Team 22 to continue to progress and help those that need the help.

Hockey One has been Launched
Hockey One is a domestic league for Australia that goes for two months. This league has been created by Hockey Australia. There will be 7 clubs that are new to the system. The clubs involved are Adelaide Fire, Brisbane Blaze, Canberra Chill, Hockey Club Melbourne, New South Wales Pride, Perth Thunder Sticks and Tassie Tigers.
Considering the Northern Territory do not have a team, their players will be available to be recruited from the clubs already in the league. One particular player, Eddie Ockenden (captain of the Australian Kookaburras) has been selected for the Tassie Tigers. There was an interview with Ockenden where he said that the Hockey One league ‘fantastic new approach’ for Hockey all over Australia. He mentioned that they would be streaming it online to make it accessible to everyone who is interested. Specifically to the Tassie Tigers, he said that it’s great to have a ‘unified name’ and how he and the team are ‘proud’ to represent their state and team.
This particular post caught my attention because of how the club displayed Eddie Ockenden’s name, as well as the clubs logo and tagline, #AllForOne. Other aspects of the post included how fans and upcoming fans can find tickets, memberships and how they can get involved. By doing this they made fans feel like they need to follow the club on social media so that they can find out this particular information.
They did well to capture the attention of viewers because they have multiple hashtags and tagged, @Kookaburras, @eddieockenden and @H1League. They were also able to add hashtags to make viewers know their stamp and can few other similar posts under the same hashtag.

Girls go to England!
The Australian Women’s Cricket Team are going to England to represent Australia in July. They released a video of the team players that will be going away. All the girls have action shots and their names are clearly visible to those watching.
The Australian Women’s Cricket Team will be supporting the women's Ashes on their trip to England. They used a video on their Twitter page to support the girls and gain publicity for the girls.
Following the video was a series of posts made about some of the girls. Such as 20 year old, Tayla Vlaeminck who is relatively new to the Australian squad, with this being her second time making an appearance for the country.
I saw these posts on the Australian Women’s Cricket Team’s Twitter Page. The videos and information were clearly displayed and were simple enough to say what the video would be about, but not too much writing were involved. This is good for those people who just want to know what is happening with the girl's team quickly and don’t need an in-depth explanation like some teams and sports do.
To upload these videos for the girls is a good idea because women’s sport is not a big thing in the Australian community, even though cricket is one of the major sports.

Celebrating Indigenous Players
Round 11. The Sir Doug Nicholls Round. This round ‘celebrates the sport’s Indigenous players, their culture and history, as well as ongoing issues plaguing Indigenous communities’ (Grieve 2019, para. 1).
Because I was able to attend the Round 11 Friday night game, North Melbourne vs Richmond at Marvel Stadium, I’ll be talking about North Melbourne in particular.
The North Melbourne Guernsey was designed to incorporate the main rivers and water from each of the teams four Indigenous player’s home country. On the back features a Rainbow Serpent, as well as the Arden Street Oval.
Next season, for the Sir Doug Nicholls Round, the club will have the same designer from this year. This is a good idea because she will know what is important to the club and their beliefs. She knows what North Melbourne expect from her, and has already worked with the particular players which can help her feel comfortable creating another guernsey for them.
Although the club was selling them on their Roo Shop website, they were auctioning off the match-worm jumpers. One, in particular, was shown on their Instagram page was Number 44. Cam Zurhaar.
By North posting on their Instagram page, they show that they not only support the club but their members. They are proud of their player, Zurhaar which is seen with the language in the post when they mentioned ‘Shinboner spirit’. This term is important to the club and the club’s history and those that know the meaning behind it are able to feel more attached to the club. This is due to them feeling as though they know the clubs history.

Get Involved with NSW Pride!
Over the last few weeks, the new Hockey One Club, NSW ride were choosing their tagline. But they left the decision up to their fans. They hosted a series of voting rounds based on Twitter where people could pick their favourite option, each round. The one with the most votes would go through to the next round and come up against a different tagline. Below, you can see the different taglines that fans had to choose from.
As you can see in this image, there were to section to the tournament. With 3 taglines in each. The voting system was able to cut the numbers down quickly and effectively so that the competition didn’t go for too long, but long enough for fans to feel like they are important to the club and helping to shape the club’s history.
In the image above, round 1 is shown to already have been completed, along with semi-finals 1 and 2. Below you will find the two options that made it through to the finals.
As you can see, there was a clear winner, which was ‘#UnleashTheBeast’. Individuals that voted for this tagline throughout the rounds would feel a sense of pride and involvement with the club.
I think this was a good competition for the club to do because it brings in new fans. This is because they show that they WANT their supporter's involvement with club decisions and are open to their ideas. In one particular voting post, the club used language such as ‘made a meal of its challenger’ and ‘struts into next week’s Grand Final’ (Link below) to talk about the competition. By using this language, they gain the fans attention by getting with the theme of their team.
Fans can clearly see what the team's logo is, and why they picked the taglines that they did. All of them revolve around the club and their mascot in some way or another.

Local club holds ‘Trivia Night’
This flyer was posted around the local club facilities, as well as on social media. The Aztecs Hockey Club hosted the trivia night at the local school, Warragul Regional College. They were able to make a Facebook event to invite their friends along to the night in support of the club. From this, the people invited could bring their family and friends along to make up numbers.
The night consisted of a series of auctions, games, a raffle and supplied drinks. Along with a couple of the women and men's Aztec players to run and organise the night. The money raised on the night was going back to the club as donations, the wanted people to bring gold coins. It was $ ahead and with up to 10 people per table. Although there would be a bar fridge, it was still recommended to bring your own.
I think the promotion was done well for this particular night, even though Aztecs are a small club. Although they are struggling for members, they’ve grown a lot in the past few years. This trivia night would have helped gain respect from others that are not involved with the club.
UPDATE The trivia night, although a fundraiser, acts as promotion for the club. The event was a massive hit and raised a lot of money for the club. With this money, they are now able to look at recruiting more members and growing the club.

North and Essendon ‘Kick for Kids’
The AFL round 5 game, North Melbourne VS Essendon on the 19th April 2019, is called the ‘Kick for Kids’ round. The round was promoted by both teams Facebook and Twitter accounts. The event was held at Marvel Stadium and was being hosted by North Melbourne Football Club with the AFL, Marvel Stadium, and the Essendon Football Clubs support.
Activities for all ages being promoted, with the ‘proceeds raised on the day [being] donated towards the Royal Melbourne Children's Hospital annual Good Friday Appeal’. Alongside the activities, there will be a ‘shoot out’ between Wayne Carey and Matthew Lloyd to help raise proceeds. 7AFL’s twitter account helped to raise awareness for the game, by putting a voting system up, of who the fans think is going to win the kick off between Wayne Carey and Matthew Lloyd.
The team I support is North Melbourne, so I am able to get notifications of what the club is doing in the community and on game days. This made it easy to find their event and details. The details for the day are published in the ‘details’ list on the Facebook Page event and were easy to find, read and understand due to the neat layout.
The promotion for the event was done well and was easy to find. Their information was straight to the point and they were able to offer a link that has more information in regards to their terms and conditions, as well as if the viewer had any questions in regards to the fame. On the 7AFL Twitter page, they posted a status with a link to donate to the Good Friday Appeal.

FAN DAY
Melbourne Vixens tweeted about an event they were holding on the 11th April 2019 in Federation Square, called ‘Fan Day’. The event was run by the Melbourne Vixens Netball Club with the support of City of Melbourne who is the local government authority for Melbourne and surrounding suburbs.
The Vixens are a sports team who represent Victoria in Netball. They compete in Australia’s national netball competition (Suncorp Super Netball). Player signings, giveaways and an opportunity for children to have a session on skills and drills were offered.
I saw this day advertised on their twitter page. I was drawn to this particular tweet because of the first line, ‘Don’t have any plans tomorrow? Now you do!’. This is because it felt like I didn’t have to organise it myself. The image they used captured my attention through being black and white, with the splash of colour which represented their logo and team colours.
They were able to get their message across social media because they put a status up on not only Twitter, but on Facebook as well.

After the event, they posted a status on their Facebook page to ‘thank’ the ‘City of Melbourne’ for the great day, and how the community supported the Vixens.
They posted a series of photos that were taken on the day to show others how the turnout was.

ESSENDON STANDS WITH NEW ZEALAND
Essendon Football Club’s member, Adam Saad. He is not only a football player but is a well known and respected Muslim.
Saad is auctioning off his “2019 Round One Signed Match-Worn Boots”, that he wore against the GWS Giants. His aim was to unify Australia and New Zealand.
(Link Below)
The auction was posted on the Official Memorabilia website page, and viewers could find the link on Twitter. The boots were personally signed by Saad himself, and were inscribed with the messages, “#WESTANDTOGETHER” and “15.3.19″ to honour the lives affected by the Christchurch massacre.
The posting of the auction could of been better on social media, but the point was still gotten across to the consumers because individuals weren’t the only ones bidding on the boots. The Islamic Museum of Australia also put in bids to help raise more money for the issue.
(Link Below)
I saw the post on my Twitter feed, and was drawn to it because it linked with an issue that affected millions of people, families and countries. Alongside the link, the post showed an image of the boots being held with the messages being clearly on display.

North Celebrates 150 Years
The North Melbourne Football Club is running an event that goes over the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd August 2019 and will be working with fans and members to commemorate their 150th anniversary.
The club advertised Round 20 on their twitter page, which is where I was notified of the event due to having their notifications turned on. Along with the status which said “We have a big weekend of celebrations planned later this season, with fans able to celebrate the club’s rich history, with a focus on momentous occasions and premierships”, they attached a link where the public could find out information about how the day was planned out for the members and fans.
The clubs plan is to have memories and achievements displayed on the scoreboard and over the PA along with a lap of legends before the bounce on the Friday night game, under the lights at Marvel Stadium against Hawthorn. The game is fitting because, in 1975, the Kangaroos won the clubs first flag against Hawthorn, with the scores being: North 122 / Hawthorn 67 (Link Below).
Along with the events before the game, members and fans are invited to join the club at The Chairman’s Function (presented by Mazda). During this function, important club individuals and key personalities will be in attendance.
The club will be working with past and present players as well as the workers at Arden Street headquarters on Sunday 3rd of August to offer members the opportunity to tour the new locker rooms, and other facilities within the property. Along with the tour, members will be granted the opportunity to meet players and past players. After these activities, the members will be encouraged to stay and watch the VFL game of North Melbourne VS Box Hill Hawks at the Arden Street Oval.
This article was very effective because they clearly outlined the day, and the wording seemed to be very enthusiastic which made the reader want to keep reading the piece. There was an image at the top of the page of the player Anthony Stevens, who was an outstanding player for the club during his career through 1989-2004.
The way they spoke on their status was very welcoming towards the fans and members, and welcomed them to “celebrate the club’s rich history” as well as for them to “focus” on the clubs “momentous occasions and premierships”.

Western Bulldogs Guernsey Controversy
The Western Bulldogs Football Club released a new Guernsey for the Round 1 2019 game: Western Bulldogs VS Sydney Swans
The Guernsey was released at the Season Launch by Easton Wood. Visuals were advertised across platforms such as Twitter and Facebook in the lead up to the launch.
Easton Wood introduced to Guernsey at the ceremony by explaining that it was for children. They want children to become invested into the game and feel like they are appreciated within, not only the football club, but the AFL to stay loyal members for years to come. Wood says:
Although the players are proud of their image, there was a bit of backlash from not only their supporters, but rival supporters. A negative response to the issue came from the manager of the Footyology, Rohan Connolly (@rohan_connolly), on Twitter, saying that “the more [they] market footy as “entertainment”, not sport, the less emotionally invested people become”. Along with Connolly’s comment, one particular supporter of a rival club said:
When I first saw the post on Twitter on ABC Melbourne (@abcbmelbourne) status, this is what I saw:
When it asked for thought’s I straight away thought it was not the best design. The design could of been better, and more thought through in regards to what the consumers would want to see.
But the idea was good. It was good that the Western Bulldogs wanted to get the youth involved as well as being able to honour the Marvel Stadium and the idea behind it.
