The annual Local Roads Congress will be held at New South Wales Parliament House by the Roads and Transport Directorate.
On Monday, June 5, 2023, the Roads and Transport Directorate will convene their annual Local Roads Congress at New South Wales Parliament House. Since 2005, the Congress has given a forum for mayors, councillors, and executives to debate policy problems concerning NSW's local road network. The Congress's goal is to address policy concerns rather than technical issues, and to improve road and transport outcomes. For in-person attendees, we are currently providing an early bird registration discount. This early bird bargain will be available until May 5th, 2023, and will provide savings of more than $100!

Basics of Asset Management
Councils in NSW are in charge of infrastructure worth millions of dollars. Our modern way of life is supported by these assets, which include roads, water supply, sewerage, stormwater, buildings, and recreational facilities. Every day, council employees must make difficult decisions about investment, maintenance, renewal, and upgrading of existing facilities, all while facing community pressure to create new infrastructure. Asset management is a strategy that can help with this problem. Asset management methods can result in more transparent decision making, improved risk management, financial sustainability, potential cost savings, and a happier community. Furthermore, the NSW Government strongly encourages councils in NSW to enhance their asset management procedures.

The Civil Liability Act of 2002
The objective of this short-course is to equip participants with an understanding of the Civil Liability Act 2002 and enhance their knowledge base with regard to the liability and risk that a Public Authority is exposed to, in the management of its’ infrastructure.
Councils were previously protected against claims of negligence when infrastructure within road reserves deteriorated due to the lack of maintenance, without them incurring penalty.
As a consequence of the decision, councils throughout Australia were exposed to claims of negligence from road users that were confronted with carriageways that were less than adequate. The risk to Road Authorities was potentially financially catastrophic from successful claims of negligence.

The 2002 Civil Liability Act
This short course's goals are to give participants a better grasp of the Civil Liability Act of 2002 and to broaden their knowledge of the risks and liabilities that a public authority may face when managing its infrastructure. Councils were previously shielded against allegations of carelessness when infrastructure within road reserves deteriorated owing to the lack of maintenance, without them incurring penalties. As a result of the ruling, local governments all around Australia were subject to negligence lawsuits from motorists who encountered inadequate carriageways. The possibility of successful negligence claims was potentially disastrous financially for the Road Authorities.
