This has been my exact experience, especially with dresses. I did beauty pageants as a child, so when I got to middle school (11-14) I decided to only wear jeans. No dresses. I hate dresses. In high school (14-18) I refused to wear make up, even when some people around were terrified of being seen without it. And the more my family tried to convince me to be more girly and wear make up or dress up the more I refused. Now as an adult, aka now that my family has given up on my appearance, I really like dresses. They're my favorite. They're easy and comfy and cool in the hot weather. I just needed some time to not be told what to do and to find it myself.

I got a bone to pick with the ATLA universe. Everyone wears colors from their nation. Reds for the fire nation, blues for the water nation, greens and browns for the earth kingdom. When Katara gets herself arrested as an earth bender, nobody even for a second goes "weird, that earth bender is wearing blue." Why does nobody pay attention to the colors?!? 😭
