Having read the excerpt from Geri's book, I still have questions as to why things went sour between her and Melanie? It seems like maybe it was Melanie who wanted to end things and that's why Geri left the group. But, again, what happened between them. Do you have anymore insight or personal speculation?

Yes actually.I believe they were really happy up until it all “came out”.

Buckle up, cuz this is long.

Apparently, Mel’s sister Danielle was working with SG as back up dancer back in the day and she and another dancer friend caught Mel and Geri, god knows doing what. Mind you, this was a day where all the girls’s parents where present. She made such a fuss about it, as well as her friend that by the end everyone at their camp knew what was going on.

(A little background: Mel’s family already knew that Mel and Geri where more than just best friends. Since before they rose to fame Mel used to take ONLY Geri several times back to her home in Leeds where they would spend weekends together and family gatherings (I have a picture of one of those gatherings where you can see Geri in the background). So, you could say they all knew Mel was the closest to Geri in more ways than another.)

But because of this “outing”, Geri’s mom, Anna heard about it and she went completely mad. A little background about Anna: she is catholic and homophobic, also a racist. When Geri first took Mel to dinner at her house Anna was fine about Mel being black, up until the truth came out about Mel and Geri she went completely ballistic and very against Melanie. Some people even said she would mutter very racist comments towards Mel and, not just back in the day, EVEN during the 2007 tour.

My speculation is: Mel’s family knew but Geri’s mom didn’t and as soon as she found out she tried to stop the relationship one way or another by probably saying evil stuff to Mel behind Geri’s back, in order to make MEL leave the group but this however caused Mel to ignore and give Geri the cold shoulder, and Geri not being able to handle the situation, it backfired and SHE left.

To me, it makes complete sense cuz Geri and her mom were not in proper speaking terms util 4 months AFTER she left the group. Geri only relayed on her brother Max.

And, to be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if Geri’s marriage (which happened way too quick) was all her mom’s idea, cuz for what I’ve read she’s always wanted Geri to marry a rich man and find a “paternal figure” for her daughter.

TL;DR: It’s Geri’s mom’s fault. And if you don’t believe me, ask the other Spice Mom’s why they no longer speak with Anna Maria (source: Mel’s mom Andrea on Twitter)
