week 5
This week we had two primary focus' one being lighting and the other working with a gimbal.
We used a Spirited Nova P300C, lamps give good quality low lighting and can be powered by battery/cable. This lamp can also be controlled with an app, in addition to this you can also control the colour. The control cable is red. The bigger model is the P600.

another lamp we looked at was the 300x
single source led lamps - powerful led that will give you a spot of light (there are a range of modifiers you can put on the front)
Comes with a protector you must remove before turning the light on.
They also have affects settings inc fireworks.
I was also reminded that all attachments must be booked separately from kit as most are not included yet can be pivotal to a successful work.

this was my first time using a gimbal and I found it a rather useful piece of equipment, after a brief explanation on how to use it we were allowed to explore the equipment ourselves. I plan to book this equipment out again to practice further to get to grips with it as I feel it will come in handy as an industry skill.

week 4
In this workshop we did further exploration of the new equipment that was used in our previous workshop. This time my skills were massively improved when compared to how I was at the start of the last workshop, we overall worked better as a team as we stuck in the same groups and the overall set up and take down was much faster and more seamless.

in addition to this we focused on different lighting set ups and staged a scene to practice these skills on
we used an FS7 camera with a 18 - 105 lens

Week 3
In this workshop we were introduced to Gibs, learning how to assemble and break down the equipment.

These are often used when revealing and hiding something from the audience.
We spent the workshop staging and practicing shots utilising the equipment.
Throughout the workshop I felt I gained confidence from start to finish. I went form being totally disatisfied with what my camera movements were creating on screen, but by the end of the workshop I felt I was able to make content more similar to what I was envisioning.

Week 2
In this weeks workshop the focus was on setting up lighting for a shot. We built on our knowledge of camera set up and how to use the camera from the previous week in conjunction with doing 3 point lighting.

I learnt that lights needed to be 20 degrees above the subject and the importance of back light, key light and fill light.

Camera used - Sony FS5

Week 1
This was not only the first workshop of 3rd year but the first physical workshop since the beginning of 1st year. The workshop refreshed my memory of camera and tripod setup, mounting cameras as well as white balancing. We discussed the scale of light, ISO and how all cameras have a native ISO of around 400 - 800. If the native ISO is deviated from there is more noise.
The lecturers tips:
Avoid auto white balance,
always put camera on factory default setting at the star of filming,
to initialise the SD card prior to filming - this clears it of previous footage and ensures it is working for the camera.
Its an important skill to get good at handheld camera movements.
In this workshop I worked with a Cannon C100, i took pictures of the camera to enable myself to become familiar with where everything is and the functions of every switch and button.
