WHY PRACTICE?
A few days ago I was traveling to Jaipur for work. Around 10 kilometers before Jaipur, I started hearing a sound of gun firing. That sound got me curious and I couldn’t stop myself from gathering more information about that gunfire. After chasing the sound I found out that it was coming from a shooting range that belongs to Indian Army. I stopped for breakfast at a Dhaba right adjacent to the range. While having breakfast I could clearly listen to the sound of roaring guns. Out of my snowballing curiosity, I asked god Google the price of one bullet that they were firing. The average cost of one bullet was about INR 50 – 100. By the time I finished my breakfast they had spent a stash of cash on these trial shots. The number of bullets that they shot during practice must be much higher than the number of bullets that they might shoot in the real world.
During my entire journey, I kept thinking about the rationale behind these kinds of practice rounds. I was thinking that is this kind of practice ensures the success in real life?
Situations in reel and real life may be completely different. So, how come practice rounds help us to improve our performance? Why practice even when you are master of your field? Why practice makes the man perfect?
Practicing is like searching routes for your destination. It helps to create mental maps that can come handy at the time of real need.
It is like carrying a first aid box in your car every time and not using it because you never face any circumstance to use it. But if one day, when you are in need of your car’s first aid box but you did not bring it because it was not coming in for use for so much time, then it will create a problem.
Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu popularly known as Sixer Sidhu, practiced in the nets at his bungalow’s backyard until he was left with tired servants due to bowling and red colored gloves due to bleeding.
God of cricket Sachin Tendulkar’s practice of placing a coin on his wicket, while practicing in nets and Creator of brand Apple Steve Job’s practice of standing in the mirror daily to self-introspect can be the examples of successful practices.
Practicing leads to satisfaction regarding our work, it can make us errorless and it also helps us to face difficult situations in the real world.
Just like those soldiers who practiced extensively so that they do not miss that one opportunity to shoot their enemy down in real need. This comprehensive practice rounds may certainly make their shooting errorless and more assertive.
This habit of practice can create wonders in our lives.
For all of us who are striving for doing wonders, practicing is really vital.
So, happy practicing!!!
