GUYS NEW SHARK JUST DROPPED

Well, technically it's not new : it's a nurse shark. What's new, however, is that it's the first xanthic (imagine albinism but in yellow) nurse shark ever found !! Not only it's not common AT ALL to find fishes with xanthism (it's the first cartilagenous fish ever recorded with this type of genetic "anomally"), but if it's there and still existing as an adult, it means the species is chill-ish with other predators (it probably would have been eaten by then). Its eyes are white so it can also be a form of albinism, in addition to xanthism !!!!!

And most of all : ITS SO CUTE !! AND IT'S SUCH A COOL FIND !!

Please if a marine biologist or someone with more info can interact with this post to feed me some more info or correct me on wrong infos i'e given I'd love it !

Every time I read an Ursula K Le Guin book I can feel it fully rewriting my brain as I chew on it.

The Lathe of Heaven.

Fuck. This book.

Because like...of course, if you could change the world for the better, wouldn't you? If you had the power to just make the world less shitty, don't you have the responsibility to try? To end hunger or war? To reverse climate change or stop a disaster? If you had such a power, wouldn't it be unethical to NOT use it for good?

But no. No, because to do so singlehandedly requires a kind of narcissism. A superman complex. To assume that you know best, you know better than anyone else and no one else needs to be consulted or considered. How *patronizing*. To impose a single vision onto all of creation is, in so many ways, genocide. Is eugenics. Whether or not that single vision is good or bad isn't the point- just that forcing a single vision on all people is itself harm.

That peace must be found in the messy chaos of all lives lived together. That peace can only be achieved in the suffering and confusion that comes when all visions of what the world might be coexist together. We must navigate the disjointed, incoherent mess together.

We have to get by with a little help from our friends.

Also, I love reading older sci fi for all the little bits it just can't predict. Mentions of the Soviet Union are always the most obvious. But I love how this book, set roughly in 2002 but written in 1970, describes in loving detail a very much *not* erupted Mount St. Helens in several scenes.

Seeing these stats made me feel like the paranoia I've had my whole life was justified. This isn't even considering the rate increase in 2025 yet. It's not that we have a "victim complex," it's the fact we are consistently gaslit in regards to our worries while used as political pawns.
