I would love for Buck to tell Eddie not to wait up for him because he’s spending the night with Ravi.

Eddie asks what they’re planning to do, and Buck shrugs and says, “Probably going to the bar then going back to his place for dinner and a movie. I’ll be crashing there, so no need to prepare the couch.”

And Eddie’s eyebrows raise as he very casually scrubs a dish a little harder and adverts eye contact. “Spending the night after dinner and a movie. Sounds kind of… you know.” He glances at Buck who doesn’t seem to get his point, so he presses on, “Are you two…” he trails off, making some sort of vague hand gesture.

Buck frowns and tilts his head. “Friends?”

Eddie sighs and sets the dish down. “Dating.”

Immediately, Buck starts laughing as he waves his hands. “No, no. But that’s hilarious. I have to tell Ravi.”

Before Eddie can stop him, Buck already has his phone out and is typing away. Eddie puts the dish in the sink a little aggressively and snatches Buck’s phone away, but the damage is already done when Eddie notices he’s already sent the message.

He still keeps the phone to himself, running around the kitchen and trying to fend Buck off. Which he successfully manages until the phone buzzes, and Eddie looks at the response.

Man, if that’s his idea of a romantic date night, then you two have been dating for years now.

Buck snatches the phone away victoriously but freezes midway through his celebration when he sees the text.

The two of them feel out the room, noting the tense energy in their silence, wondering who is going to break it first.

Eddie surprises himself by saying, “Well, I hope you have a good time,” as he heads back to the sink.

They both don’t bring it up again, but Eddie does think about it the entire time Buck’s gone.

my favorite part of the 8x18 superhero eddie stuff is they really posed it like eddie is a hero from a romance novel. he is supposed to be leaving town, and then he happens to catch the building collapse on the news. he postpones his travel plans for his new job (which he and buck just fought about LAST EPISODE) to save his damsel in distress (buck). and then while his eyes are locked lovingly on his beautiful damsel love interest, the third wheel interferes and causes them to break eye contact. like these are some of the most beloved tropes in the romance GENRE!!!!

super hero eddie and damsel in distress buck FOREVERRRR. the first time they do bad roleplay in bed, buck is fluttering his eyelashes SO MUCH while pretending eddie is his knight in shining armor who he must now reward for saving his life ❤️ yay ❤️

When it comes to Buddie becoming canon:

Buck needs to know it’s okay; Eddie needs to know it’s allowed.

Eddie should/will be the one to move them forward, but he has to feel safe to walk through the door; a door that Buck is terrified to open. We left season 8 with it unlocked and cracked open, just a little. It wouldn’t take much to open it enough for the light to get in. It’s just so hard to be patient 🥲.

i want buck and eddie (pre relationship) to run into another firefighter couple..from a different station..and they run into them at the grocery store and they kind of know them peripherally.. with them being LA firefighters…and Brent and Ethan..yeah that’s their names, casually drop how they live together and bucks like oh yeah eddie and i do too! and then brent mentions some restaurant they just tried and bucks like oh yeah eddie and i finally got a reservation it was so good , wasnt it eddie? and Eddie’s like yeah :) and then buck teases ‘but he did say my cooking was better didn’t u eddie” and Eddie’s just like yeah lol :) and Ethan is like yall are so cute, we should go on a double date sometime! and buck and eddie are like wait.,, what.. and they’re full on blue screening but buck maybe mumbles out ‘actually uh yeah that could be fun’ and Eddie’s like ‘we’ll ..we’ll text you?’ And brent&ethan are like hehe okayy great guys well. just let us know…

and anyway that’s how buck&eddie start going on regular double dates without being in a relationship yet
