crazy to think about all those YEARS in which plutarch and his team are planning and instigating and weaving a rebellion and FAILING THOSE PEOPLE they are using AS INSTRUMENTS FOR IT and scrambling and covering it up and telling a different story and doing it again

i absolutely get that snow knowing about the lake is so devastating to so many but man i love it. that devastation is why i love it. of course that lake has a history of its own, of course snow touched it, of course nothing is sacred but although no one seeds it, the meadow turns green again. the water stands still but everything around it will change. it will not hold weapons but children's laughter. i can't explain this with words truly but the feeling i have when i think about that fucking lake is untouchable. I LOVE LAKES.

Am I the only one who, for some reason, can't not constantly think about the memorials Katniss references in the epilogue?
"The arenas have been completely destroyed, the memorials built."
Is there a memorial for all the children who were murdered in the hunger games? All 1,725 of them? Did someone manage to dig up the names of all the past tributes? Can Haymitch go to the capitol and run his fingers over the L in Louella's name? Can Katniss look at Rue's name, engraved in something permanent?
Is there a memorial for all the rebel soldiers who died while fighting the capitol? Does Finnick's name reside right next to Prim's on a big glossy slab of marble or granite?

Mags: We call that a traumatic experience.
Mags, turning to Wyatt: Not a "bruh moment".
Mags, turning to Maysilee: Not "a major L".
Mags, turning to Haymitch: And DEFINITELY not an "oof LMAO"

The true ages of the victors
Do you ever think about how young the characters in the Hunger Games really were?
I mean, Katniss and Peeta were 16 in their first Hunger Games. In our world, they’d be getting a summer job and driving for the first time. They might be studying for AP exams or the ACT.
Johanna’s about 20. She should have been in college, or maybe some sort of trade school— she should have been preparing for the rest of her life.
What about Rue? She should be eating ice cream after school with her friends. She should be in middle school making rainbow loom bracelets and complaining about the teacher.
Thresh always seems older, too, because of the “maturity” we see in him when he spares Katniss (which is actually a youthful sense of justness, feeling that he has to give back what she has given to him by protecting a little girl). Thresh should have been packing for college, not his grave.
And Haymitch? At 40, he should have had a steady career and kids. Instead, he saw kids die every year.
Part of the issue with the way we see The Hunger Games is that, in our minds, we subconsciously age up the characters because of the “maturity” they have been forced to develop. But what we mistake for maturity is actually just a sense of humanity which is so uncommon in Panem that it sticks out like a sore thumb to the readers.

Watching the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is realizing that despite the obvious implication that Lucy Gray is the songbird and Snow is the Snake…it’s likely the opposite.
Lucy gray controlled the snakes and used them as her weapon of choice, the snake biting him was Lucy’s kiss goodbye. She is the snake.
Snow sold Sejanus out through the jabberjay’s, they were his tool to fly back home and back into power. He is the songbird.
But at the same time…as in her Ballad, Lucy Gray flys away with the mockingjays after she sings the Hanging Tree one final time while fleeing Snow. She is physically a songbird. And Snow chose to work with Dr. Gaul, who created and controlled those snakes. He was the snake who betrayed his friend.
Who is the songbird and who is the snake? It’s unclear, but isn’t that the mystery?

thinking about how Katniss' main motivation isn't actually survival but love . . . nearly every choice she makes in the book is a choice made out of love for others . . . she's made of love guys
