Any time I see some variation of “Elain would be good for Tamlin because flowers and she would like staying home and being a hostess/Tamlin needs someone who would let him be in charge” etc. I always cringe a little bit. Maybe he’ll turn out to be actually conservative and traditional, but I don’t think, from what I see in ACOMAF, that it comes from an authentic place. Rather, it seems to stem from fear and guilt. From an unhealthy place. And so he shouldn’t be with someone who would indulge those neuroses, but who would challenge them.

It’s easy to say that because he values being a protector, a partner would have to accept that, but I don’t think it’s so simple. I do think he values protecting—and really, someone with a lot of power should value protecting those who have less power, and are vulnerable—but there’s also a negative side to that, in thinking he’s only valuable for his body, and nothing else. That he has nothing else to offer. So “protector” isn’t his entire personality; it’s just one aspect. The problem in ACOMAF was that he could only see Feyre as someone to protect. I do think he wants to take on most things himself, but I can’t say that it reflects his relationships generally. Lucien takes plenty of risks. So do his sentries. With Feyre, he saw her as a vulnerable girl, and couldn’t really see her another way when she was tortured and brutally murdered because of him, in front of him, and he could do nothing to stop it. He couldn’t handle his guilt about it, and wanted nothing like that to ever happen again. The problem is, there’s no way to do that while being someone’s partner. Not completely. Of course couples, mates, can protect one another. But there’s no way to stop every threat, to completely eliminate any danger. Loved ones will always worry about one another; that’s just part of the deal. There’s this mindset I think Tamlin had in ACOMAF, the sort of “as long as everything stays like this, as long as everything is predictable and no one or nothing breaks the routine, I’m ok.” But then when inevitably something does, he can’t handle it. I don’t think the solution then, is for his partner to forever walk on eggshells around him, because there will always be something to set him off. There is no “reasonable” set of conditions. Life is messy and unpredictable; there is conflict. Couples fight. So I don’t think it’s about tradition; again, it’s about neurosis. On the other hand, I don’t think the usual ACOTAR formula of telling someone they’re a worthless piece of shit and don’t deserve kindness or second chances, laughing as they fall, breaking them down to build them up is a solution either. It can be difficult living with someone with a mental health disorder. Not everyone wants to deal with it. It’s often a chronic condition. But there is a middle ground of someone who will accept him, and the fact he might always be this way to an extent (not abusive, I mean that emotionally he’ll always have problems), knows he might always need space to be alone in beast mode; but also won’t become like how Tamlin’s mother was with his father. Feyre at the end of ACOWAR spoke of her genuine desire that Tamlin overcome the hold fear and anger have over him. Love is risk; choice is risk. It is not safe. Whatever partner he has, he has to make peace with that first.

What @letslipthehounds said also applies to state government, except you have a third category of people who refer to the forms as whatever the fuck they please, a fourth category of people who have no clue, and then each agency and division has its own additional forms or maybe they're somehow not using the forms at all because that's the responsibility of Someone Else.

And then it's time for the records holding paperwork, where you have to account for all of your official records and how many you've added or destroyed, as each type of record is assigned its own Records Disposition Authorization (RDA) number to tell you how long you're supposed to keep it. Plus the certificates of destruction you get to complete when you get rid of those records.

My personal most hated kind of paperwork, tbh, because if you're responsible for these processes, you get shit from the people who want the information and from the people who are supposed to give the information but think it's completely unnecessary and a waste of time.

Okay, without trying to take away from the joy we are feeling, we must stay vigilant. This ceasefire deal is 3 phases, the first is a 42 day pause for hostage exchange which is set to start on SUNDAY, as long as Netanyahu’s cabinet signs off on it. The IOF is not expected to fully retreat from Gaza, but stay to ‘mandated zones’. Palestinians are meant to be able to return to their homes, but with Israeli soldiers still there, this is not a guarantee. The 600 aid trucks a day into Gaza during this 42 day phase 1 is still not enough.

THIS IS NOT OVER. We do not know the details of phase 2 and 3, and nothing has been agreed for these phases in writing. We must not get complacent in this moment of respite. Please, do not stop fighting. This is not over until every Palestinian can return home, until the occupation is gone, until all of Palestine is free.

Keep protesting and campaigning, keep donating because aid organisations need all the help they can get, especially in the next 6 weeks, and it might be the only window people get to evacuate. This is a step in the right direction, but it is not over.

i don't wanna sound hopeless but i feel like so many of you don't care or have stopped caring about palestine.

the news of hospitals being bombed, children being massacred, people dying from the cold, and the famine spreading in gaza does not seem enough to grab attention or make people care.

what new tragedy needs to befall gaza for you to start talking about it? the occupation kills a child every few minutes. people are cold and are starving. refugee camps are being bombed with bombs that can level city blocks.

this all happens because of all of us. we are complicit in this genocide because our governments use the taxes we pay to send weapons to the occupation. weapons that are used to kill children and impose a blockade that is starving 2 million people.

Details for archaeology nerds (So it happens again I guess)

1. The tablet-woven bend

Design is loosely taken from an actual archaeological find from the Taplow Barrow in Buckinghamsire, dating to the early 7th century. The original piece really had the gold threads on it by the way. You can see the modern reconstruction here.

2. Pattern on the tunic

Taken from a part of an arcade illustration in the Royal Bible (Royal 1. E. vi, 4r.) c. 1000-1025 in British Library, London. Added some vine patterns that are quite common to see in insular art for reasons.

3. Pattern on the shawl

Taken from a part of the stole and the maniple in St. Cuthbert’s coffin, dated to early 10th century, now in Durham Cathedral Museum.

4. Embroidery on Alfred’s sleeves

The pattern is from an illustration in the manuscript of Bede’s Life of St Cuthbert (MS 183, f. 1v) c. 937 in Parker Library, Cambridge, which depicts King Æthelstan showing the book to St Cuthbert himself.
