self-destruction doesn’t always look like taking too many pills or cutting your skin open. sometimes it’s drinking coffee when you know caffeine gives you panic attacks. sometimes it’s crossing the street without looking both ways. sometimes it’s showering with the water a little too hot. sometimes it’s avoiding eye contact with your reflection in the mirror or ridiculing your problems rather than addressing them. sometimes it’s walking out without sunscreen in scorching heat and not wearing enough when it’s freezing out. self destruction isn’t always physical mutilation, mostly it’s masked as little things so never assume what someone may be going through just bc they don’t show you visible signs of suffering.

a list of body image boosting activities:
i don’t usually post things like this because i’m really bad at generalised positivity but here’s a list of things i’ve found that really help with body positivity, whether it’s dysphoria-related, weight-related, or self-esteem related.
get massage oils/moisturisers/even just shower gel or soft soaps in the shower and give yourself a belly rub (and or boob rub depending on if you’re happy doing that and whether or not you have dem titties) bc those things make you feel extra soft and you’ll really appreciate it, also belly rubs are very good for you and your digestive system!
eat warm foods/drink hot drinks bc they feel nice in your tum and are also comforting generally
look at yourself in the mirror, stand up straight, shoulders back, arch your back slightly; it accentuates your whole figure and immediately makes you look more attractive, REGARDLESS of body type, it’s a very attractive position; get used to looking at yourself in confident, strong poses, not hunched over/slouched/nervous ones!
run your hands up and down your front and sides in a faux-seductive sort of way, it makes u feel good about yourself
masturbate, if you’re confident doing that; i know this might be a problem for some people on the ace spectrum or people with certain religious beliefs, so don’t worry if you can’t/don’t want to, but masturbation releases loads of really good hormones (usually more than sex with other people does) and is a great way to connect with your body and learn to love it
spoil yourself with food/cosmetics/clothes!
change the clothes you’re wearing if you’re feeling bad in a certain outfit, change it asap, see if that helps, i’ve had this really help me on certain days when i’m very dysphoric and i didn’t realise immediately that it was the clothes i was wearing that were making it worse
roll around in underwear and do nice big stretches; take your binder off if it’s hurting you, or leave it on if you feel better in it; wear nice lingerie if you’re happy doing that.
put on makeup if you’re a makeup-wearer, make yourself look snazzy as hell, do your hair up proper, do your nails, shave your legs if u want, do whatever is normal for you to make you feel ready for the world and gorgeous; for me, this involves contouring my face, too, and this makes a huge impact on my confidence
if you’re androgynous or male-presenting in your gender, try contouring, seriously; it’s easy to learn to do, i might put a tutorial up soon; this is a huge thing which helps my dysphoria
body worship yourself; squish your hands into your lovely thighs, play with your belly button, run your hands over your collarbones, make your cute ass bounce, do it; doesn’t matter if you’re fat, skinny or muscular, this will feel awesome.
smell good-smelling things; aromatherapy has some great scientific basis behind it (seriously, check out what neroli oil does to your serotonin levels); find out what smells boost your mood and surround yourself in them

Here’s a nice Saturday reminder that if you don’t get as much as you want to don’t this weekend, that’s okay! Take the time to rest and prepare yourself for the week ahead. You don’t have to be productive all the time to be successful

You’re safe.
There’s nothing chasing you. There won’t be a face in the window. Nothing is following you up the stairs. Nothing is under your bed. You can throw your legs over your bed, you can have your arm over the side of the bed, because nothing is out to get you. I promise. I’m here to protect you. I’ll kick its ass.
You’re safe.

Most people carry that pain around inside them their whole lives, until they kill the pain by other means, or until it kills them. But you, my friends, you found another way: a way to use the pain. To burn it as fuel, for light and warmth. You have learned to break the world that has tried to break you.

If someone cheats on you they do not love you, remember that. If someone cheats on you they do not care about you as much as they say they do. If someone cheats on you it means that for a split second you were off their mind long enough for them to put another person in arms that should only be for you. If someone cheats on you, dear god, I hope you don’t go back to them because you are worth so much more than that.

the shitty thing about depression/anxiety is the fact that you live with it so long and so much that you forget how insidious it actually is. When you can’t do something and you think it’s because you’re lazy and unmotivated and then you have an up day and you get so much stuff done and you don’t think about how it’s because you’re having an up day. That this is literally how people without mental illness function
