Being obsessed with an old aesthetic is strange. I love the art, clothes, design and vibe of the early 1900’s. Art deco, beautiful furniture and cars, the style. I watch old films and have a strange nostalgia for a time I never lived through. Yet while I appreciate the beauty and idealized presentation of the artists in these films and pictures, I’m aware of the horrific history behind all those images. The abuse of the women, the forced abortions and vile control of the studios. The inequality and lives destroyed. Modern sensibilities seem too bright and garish, and I long for the look and feel of the past. While understanding how superficial it all was. How much darkness existed just outside the frame. It’s an uncomfortable feeling. To be out of place in your time. Yet instilled with modern values that would make existing in the past impossible. Random thoughts on a lazy morning.

Been a fan since the early videos on YouTube. Every so often an original voice emerges. A singer/songwriter with true talent that cuts through all the bullshit. I prefer her stripped down works, just Morgan and a guitar. And that voice. Her albums are solid, but more commercial. But her lyrics, her voice, her essence comes through.

Adjacent to the rural is the rugged, forbidden hinterland.
