V BIT HER tongue as she listened to what jace had to say. sure, he probably had good intentions and meant well but the pride of her perfectionism wasn’t taking too well to the critiques being thrown her way. and it definitely wasn’t enjoying the attitude. but still, she was a professional. taking his words on the chin, she smiled possibly the fakest smile she could muster. “they told me they wanted new and different. i know the comics, i studied the comics. this is new and different like i was told to create but okay, if you think i should try again then i’ll try again.” taking the papers back from him, her smile falling slightly trying to quickly visualise a happy medium between the comic book lore and the exciting new vision everyone was expecting.
Being in this business was difficult. You needed to have thick skin because there was always criticism, no matter how well you thought you did. Jace learned that at a fairly young age, and he also learned how to give criticism himself. Not just shitty comments but genuine advice on how to improve and make it up the Hollywood ladder. That’s exactly what he had done for Rivera. Maybe he had been a little more harsh than necessary, though, noting the look on her face. “Look, I know you put in the work for these, and it shows. It does. It’s just... You said to be honest, yeah? Well, I’m gonna be real with you for a minute. Spiderman was really my biggest break, and it can be that for you, too, but you have to want it. You know the comics? Great. That’s gonna be a hell of a lot more than some of the competition, but these sketches?” He gestured to the papers and shook his head just slightly. “These don’t show that. It’s like you’re trying to match what you think they want instead of showing the vision that you have. What are your thoughts about the comics?”

TAKEN ABACK BY his immediate aggression, delilah took a little step back, unsure if there was something she’d missed. with jace, she tended to take things a bit at a time as their interactions could go either way depending on his overall mood. they could be like good friends or at each other’s throats and that was just their thing. “i really do feel like i could’ve left for a solid year and you wouldn’t even notice.” she laughed, setting herself down on the seat beside him. “i just got back from australia. needed some time away to get myself back together again— okay, why are you looking at me like that ? ”
Jace scoffed in both offense at the assumption and slight annoyance with the disruption still. “I would notice. You give me no credit.” Watching her sit down, he realized he would not get much studying accomplished and folded down the corner of the page he was on. He said he would notice if Delilah was gone, and that would (probably) be true if she left for a year, but he could not say the same for this time. Plus, he was pretty sure it hadn’t been a year since he’d seen her. “Well, you’re super peppy, and I was in the middle of a not-so-peppy scene. Also, you look different. How was it down undah?” he asked, using a somewhat accurate but mostly absurd Australian accent.

AS MUCH AS she loved her job, the creative blocks that regularly hit were a killer for her mind. so many events, premieres, pr appearances and so little time to get everyone sorted and herself out of this creative funk… but v wasn’t about to back down now. her parents didn’t raise a quitter ! “ right, so they’re still a little rough but before i go any further, what’s your opinion on this ? be as honest as you want. i’m a tough cookie, i can take it. ”
Jace took the pile of papers and shuffled through them, humming and sighing as he took a look at each sketch carefully. When he reached the end of the samples, he shook his head sighed once more, heavily. “No. No, this is... You’re venturing too far with these. Yeah, you have to show your own spin, but this is Spiderman. It’s a classic. If you’re going to go for a costume designer role on this show instead of just a stylist, you’ve got to give the producers and directors something that screams ‘I was meant for this job,’“ he advised, holding out the stack to her. “Actually, no. It’s got to scream ‘This is my fucking job!’ Right? Study the comics and try again.”

BREATHING IN THE scent of her favourite coffee shop, delilah smiled. while it had been good for her mental state to go back to her grandparents’ for a little bit, it did feel good to be home. coffee cup in hand, her eyes picked up on a familiar face nearby. unable to contain her smile, delilah slowly strolled towards them making sure to subtly flick her newly bleached hair out of her face. “ hello stranger ! ”
“Who the fuck do you think-- Oh.” Jace had been buried in the script for the first episode of Edge of Spiderverse, hand wrapped comfortably around a cool glass of iced coffee when Delilah suddenly appeared within his bubble, shadow looming over his table. He had been about to rip the person a new one for breaking his concentration when he looked up to see his old friend’s cheerful face. Something was different about her, though. “You’re way too chipper. What’s wrong with you?” He narrowed his eyes in suspicion.

there’s a silence that’s decided to settle between them after that , and the blonde struggles with what to make of it . it’s not uncomfortable . . . it’s not warm or familiar , but it feels different , and it’s the first time ( in a long time ) that she suspects that maybe . . . maybe there is something more to jace . maybe there’s parts of him worth getting to know ? after all , she’d always wanted to believe that about him ( even in the moments he’d led her to believe otherwise ) . ❝ i um — i should probably go . ❞
“Wait--” Jace stopped short, clearing his throat. He liked Sienna’s company, but the last thing he wanted was to come off as needy. Jace Montgomery was the type to blow things off and only care about himself, right? He kept himself from getting hurt that way (at least, that’s what he told himself). “I mean, if you want, yeah.” He ran a hand through his dark hair and shrugged nonchalantly. “People at this party are pretty lame anyway.” Part of him hoped she wouldn’t go, that he could talk to her and get to know her a little more. He knew, though, that it would be better if she left him alone. He didn’t have many great relationships these days, and he was pretty sure Sienna hated him. Leaning back in his chair, he brought the bowl of fruit into his lap and looked out at the other people milling about so he wouldn’t appear as if he cared that she stayed or went.

“Yeah for the media.” She grumbled.”Going though a breakup in the public eye is literally the worst.” Lila sighed wanting to change the subject. “So when’s the next spider-man movie coming out?”
He shrugged. “Meh, it’s whatever. Just ignore it.” Picking up his glass of milk, Jace laughed. Unlike a couple of his castmates, Jace had no problems keeping secrets and spoilers to himself, including anything about upcoming projects. “Who knows?” he answered before gulping down half the milk.

he was lucky , sienna thought ( so often feeling like a moving part in her own life ) . yes , she was fortunate now to have people who made her feel otherwise , but growing up ?? growing up she hadn’t ever been surrounded by anything or anyone ‘ n o r m a l ’ . at least , not until the solomons had entered her life . her parents , of course , had always done their best , but given their high profile careers life just . . . wasn’t — not that the blonde had realized that the camera flashes and the way her mom had shielded her from them the first few years of her life was anything but . after all , she was so young . how could she know ? it would be at least another couple more years before she’d come to understand that the people that liked to gather outside of their home and crowd their car — shouting in chaotic unison for pictures — weren’t mommy and daddy’s friends . ❝ i bet that was nice . you must miss him , ❞ she’s treading carefully , not just because its jace , but because she’d been haunted by the same glazed over look for years anytime she thought of her own loss . at least he’s still smiling .
His mind had wandered back to the memories of his childhood in Seattle. His father was fairly well known, but he was always traveling, so Jace never really knew better. For him, life was just about his mom and his grandparents. Even when he had started auditioning for small roles, his strongest memories were not of cameras flashing and thunderous voices but of afternoons in his grandfather’s basement, jazz records playing in the background while they played cards or sorted change into the many jars his grandpa collected over the years. Sienna’s voice suddenly replaced that of the scratchy vinyl, and Jace blinked in realization of where he was. “Hmm? Yeah, I mean, sure I do. He was pretty great,” he told her. The boy had made a point to present himself as someone who didn’t reflect on the past or what people thought, so he was careful about going into any details. The blonde appeared genuine enough, but he knew firsthand how that could be an act.

Emmy hadn’t been on social media since this morning, so she’d be lying if she knew what the other had been referring to. The only thing she had seen was the one with the little girl singing about people’s assholes. She raised an eyebrow at the male, looking over his shoulder. She had no idea what he was even laughing about. “If you mean the one about the little girl then yeah, but if not then I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Yes, that one!” Clicking play on the video again, he turned the volume up on his phone. Laughter followed quickly. “This kid is going places.”

Lila rolled her eyes playfully at the remark as she turned around in her seat. The waft of pancakes filled her nose and her stomach began to growl. “Nope the vultures are at it again, trying to rile me up by screaming how I feel about my ex’s new girlfriend.”
His lips quirked upwards at the corner and stabbed a few pieces of pancake, swirling the heavenly food in syrup before bringing it to his mouth. “Well, that sounds exciting,” he said with his mouth full.

she was reminded then of just how little jace montgomery actually knew her ( though , not for a lack of trying . especially , on her part ) . did she really seem so dimwitted that he couldn’t even tell that she was playing along ? ❝ well , my father’s not a spy , so i’m not sure that i do . . . ❞ she trailed off , cracking a small smile this time to show that she was in fact joking . he seemingly needed that . ❝ now , if you mean everything else . . . then yes , i do know how it is . weird how people take that to mean we’re supposed to be okay with it , though , isn’t it ? ❞
Jace watched Sienna carefully, that partial grin remaining in place. She kept up with him, sending biting comments and witty lines his way. He kind of liked it. As an impatient, rather grouchy person, the boy was choosy about who he opened up to, and even then, he tended to ruin those relationships. “Funny,” he remarked, the smile growing a bit. “It really is weird. I mean, sure, we’ve been doing this for a long time, but that doesn’t make it any better. My grandpa was really good at keeping things normal for me...” He trailed off, the mention of his grandfather coming as a surprise to him, but he smiled at the memories, his eyes sort of glazing over as he stared past Sienna.

“ alright, i usually never ask shit like this because like … i’m dumb and a bit of a dickhead who NEVER wants to take advice. however, i need you to take a look at this for me. if you don’t mind. ” benji suggests when holding out a personally designed outfit he’d personally drawn up in his spare time to showcase it towards the other person. when searching intently for an more-so visual opinion rather than verbal one before continuing on with his statement ; vision switching between his sketch & distractedly when replying, “ … but if it’s absolutely ugly save me the heartbreak. please. ”
Jace had been leaning against the wall of the studio kitchen between meetings, a glass of freshly pressed orange juice in his right hand, when he was nearly assaulted with a drawing. His eyebrows shot up in a mixture of aggravation and astonishment. “Jesus fucking Christ, man, ever hear of personal fucking space?” he spat. The actor had barely even processed what the other boy was saying in the midst of the unwelcomed greeting. With a roll of his eyes, he pushed the designer’s hand back and huffed. “Look, next time, don’t just spring yourself on a guy, okay? What am I even looking at?”

Lila held her middle finger in the air as she walked down the sidewalk to her favorite diner. Camera shutters and invasive questions about various exes flew by her ear. She gritted her teeth and ignored them, she opened the door and was seated at a booth. Her eyes scanned the menu wondering what to order.
“And here I am thinking that shit storm was just for me,” Jace’s voice piped up from behind the girl. He had pancakes in front of him, a staple for Jace Montgomery no matter the time of day, but a menu was still propped beside him to block his face from view of the paparazzi in the window.

“ at this point , you’re just getting entertainment from how stupid people are . ” caleb’s playful accusation held no malice , though , and he was still grinning good-naturedly . “ i mean … do you spend a lot of time lookin’ around at that kinda stuff ? ”
Jace chuckled and shrugged dramatically. “Guilty as charged,” he confessed. He sat up and dropped his phone in his lap, growing a little bored of his browsing. “Nah, usually just when I’ve got nothing to do. Fail videos... That’s another good one to get sucked into. You ever watch those?”

there was always something about the way that jace would say her name that made sienna a bit . . . uncomfortable . almost like he said it that way just to annoy and frustrate her . maybe he didn’t do it on purpose , she thought , but it felt like he did . ❝ stars magazine , apparently , ❞ she replied , rolling her eyes in the process . before she could talk herself out of it , though , she had carefully set her drink down on the small table between them , taking a seat in the chair beside his own . ❝ so is this what you’ve been dealing with since i last saw you ? sounds stressful . ❞
Another laugh started to make its way up his throat. “My father is not actually a spy, so I hope that’s not what you’re talking about.” He leaned back, wiggling a little to make himself comfortable and looked over to the blonde. She seemed almost genuinely concerned, or at least curious. Part of him wondered how she could actually sit here and listen to him, but the other part didn’t care. That was the side that typically took the front seat these days, but he was debating whether or not he should actually talk about something real. “It’s fine,” he said, “I mean... well, you know how it is.” With a shrug and a dismissive eye roll, he offered Sienna a tiny quirk of his lips and plucked out another grape from the bowl.

A BROW RAISED as he spoke and she let out a small scoff. “me-ow, did i say you were insane?” god, some people were so touchy. her attention went back to the screen, obviously already done with the conversation. she began to click on the game app when she heard him speak up again. “again… did i say that?” a slight smile curled onto her features. “you need to chill.”
Jace rolled his eyes. He was already done with her attitude. “No, but I did. It’s not all about you. It’d be fucking insane to stare at something for that long.” Muttering to himself about just trying to have a conversation, he turned back to his own spot, ready to move on with his day.
