Red-carpet burns, 1. On the 13th of May two class-mates and myself set off for the French Riviera in pursuit of sun, sea and cinema. This was all our first time attending the 'Festival de Cannes' and hopefully not our last. What I hoped to be an eye opening adventure in movie- land lived up to it's fame and glamour, but this trip also taught me lots in an uncountable amount of ways. It's safe to say I truly had the time of my life and would urge anyone tempted to go, be them students, journalists or filmmakers, to just do it. Now that I'm back in Oxford there's not much left to do but gradually unpack, do laundry and sit out my time at work this summer before term time starts again. Gradually I'll write up reviews, post pictures and hopefully put together some kind of guide, but for now here's me and Ula after a night on the red carpet.

Yesterday the MPAA rejected the Sin City: A Dame to Kill For Eva Green poster [see above]. The main opposition the MPAA seems to have is with specifically the "curve of under breast and dark nipple/areola circle visible through sheer gown", as reported by the NY Post. Many will argue that this is purely a disapproval of the posters avid sexuality, however this is debatable as you could say the same for visible gun as a symbol of violence. To me neither the gun nor sexual flavour within the poster are specifically what the MPAA are getting at, but rather the specific detail of the poster itself. Regardless of whether you think the poster is risqué or not it would be hard to deny how hyper-stylish and fantastic Eva Green looks. The idea of the poster being reject is bound to create more of a stir than if they had let it fly in the first place. It could easily be said that the MPAA knows this and further knows it'll boost overall interest, hence why less tasteful posters such as Spring Breakers seem to get less of a rough deal. Regardless of whether you think the poster is too much we live in an age now where you don't have to see billboards and bus-stops to see movie ads, whether it gets put up or not the poster still exists, is still awesome and Eva Green still sexy.

"We always write letters to each other. She wrote me letters the whole time I was in the hospital. When I thought my hand was never going to work again, she wrote me a letter that said: ‘At the very least, I expect you to pick up a marble when I see you next.’ I’m actually going to see her in a few hours. But I still want to have a letter to give her."
