Realized I forgot to post it, but I finished up the amp repair :)

Did encounter a bit of a problem in accidentally exploding a transistor because I removed some stuff I didnt realize was electrical insulation

(Burnt thermal paste and a chunk taken from the heatsink when it blew)
But one replacement later and it's good as new
With this finished up, my next project is probably gonna be repairing a rusted and broken xbox (came with free roaches!) or the refurbishment of an IBM typewriter. Stay tuned!

Tape loops are a lot harder to make than I expected
Though I'm making it easier on myself by using 90 min instead of 60 min which have thinner tape

New caps are in :)
Couldn't find any that fit the diameter so its not the cleanest but hey, if it works it works

New caps for the amplifier came in :)
Not exactly the same size as I couldn't find any new ones that were, but they should be close enough. May need to drill some holes in the board but there's enough space to work with

New long term project I'll be chippin away at. The plan: make a mellotron using cassettes
If you haven't heard of the mellotron before, it was a magnetic tape based musical instrument thats become a mainstay of progressive rock. They are super neat and produce a really unique sound, and as a big prog rock head I wanted to try making my own!
This isn't a totally original idea or anything, and people have made very similar devices, like the melloman by mike walters (https://www.mysterycircuits.com/mellomen.html)
I wont be using walkmans though, instead using some NOS mechanisms from aliexpress. Right now it doesn't consist of much, but I got a lil preamp board ill be wiring up soon to get some audio output from this thang

Pretty much got it disassembled except for the power supply and damn is this thing dusty. Look at that spot on the case where it was wiped vs where it wasn't. I don't know how something even gathers this much dust, especially under the main board like that

Got a good deal on this Sony amp / equalizer, was sold as broken.
According to the seller, everything seemed to work except the issue is that connected speakers sound fuzzy and poppy, but when I first tested it I didn't notice anything off. However, when I tried switching the speakers from A -> B then back, I could hear what they were talking about and it sounded bad. But if I fiddled with the knob a bit, it sounded fine again
I was initially expecting to have to do some repairs in the field of replacing transistors or recaping it, but if I'm right this fix is stupid simple.
What I think is that there's literally nothing wrong with it, the knob just needs some cleaning or may need to be replaced. What's causing the issue is that its getting caught in between the two speaker options and not making a full connection, leading to the intermittent sound. Planning to still open it up to clean it and out and will recap if any look bad, but this came before the capacitor plague era so hopefully it'll be fine.
Excited to get it all cleaned and set up :)

Quite dusty inside, but that's usually expected with this kind of stuff lol
Don't see any obvious signs of corrosion or leaking so that's good

These two large caps look they could be bulging but I'm not sure if that's just how they look.

Also what's with this weird PCB connector? Don't get why they couldn't have just used a cable, this seems a lot more precarious

Update
Really haven't made much art in a while, but I've still been making stuff! It's really just been exploring different avenues, such as coding, electronics, 3D printing, among many others. It started as an art blog, but I never really posted anything new lol. Gonna be moving this blog to instead be a more serious place for talking about projects im working on and other related creative endeavors. This will probably include art as well, but it wont be the main focus anymore
